Washington Huskies was looking great at the front of the year, winning three straight while improving, making the jump from Alw company, to G3, to G1 with staggering results.\u00a0 In the Scam G3 , Jockey K. Proehl deployed a new tactic on him, bringing him from well back to score in shocking fashion. Little did he know at that time that another in this race, Dutch Henry , was also part of this race, and showed little, finishing well back. He then tried his luck in the G1 California Derby, where he was an after thought, and once again scored coming from well off, in what might have been considered a weak field. Washington Huskies seemed to fall off form after that, but continued racing through it, getting beat bad in the Blue Grass, and the Clerk Of Scales G 1’s, and also a very bad performance in the slop in the Ontario Labatt’s.\u00a0 Finally in August the horse found a new lease on life scoring big in the G2 Mountainous Derby, and running his best time of the season only to beaten while running a good time in his following race.<\/span><\/p>\n

Realistically the horse needs major rest.\u00a0 Don’t see him as a factor.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

PACKIN THE HEAT\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/a><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Packin The Heat has certainly not been shy about the competition he has been facing, continuously meeting this lot at the top notch levels.\u00a0 He has raced most in here, and beaten most in here at one time or another.\u00a0 Looking back to the Cosmopolitan G1,, Packin The Heat had no less than four others from this race in against him, and although he went off as the favorite, he was left in a five horse run down where The Hound had gotten away from him at the top of the stretch, and a lot of the rallying types that day including Kyger Station\u00a0 and Speight Knight were in form, nipping him at the wire leaving him off the podium. In his latest, The Outhouse Mile, he once again deployed his stalking nature but again was left on the shitter as he was caught at the wire by his nemesis, Speight Knight. He faces them again here. Will be \u00a0tough to beat.<\/span><\/p>\n

Still a serious contender.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

SPEIGHT KNIGHT<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Could be the one to fear here, showing up\u00a0 more times than not when he is least likely to be a apart of the photo shoot. As you can tell he loves to come from well off the pace, and generally always has something to say about the podium, but seems to have a difficult time of it putting it all together and scoring the win. His racing has to change eventually and today may just be that day with a few in here making the lead hotly contested. Unfortunately he is not the only major closer in this race, and tactics and jockey may be the deciding factor in where he places. He has given Packin The Heat fits this year beating that one in the most recent G1 Outhouse ,and a couple back he found himself matched against another contender in here, K’s Gorgo ,who is the reigning Dirt Mile Champion. On that day K’s Gorgo was in form winning the race leaving Speight Knight too far back to be a factor.<\/span><\/p>\n

Gang Related really has come out of nowhere to get to where he is today, and won a G 1 event in the Ambein Shakes Handicap G 1 in the most unlikely of ways, winning in a weak field, basically his first shot at the graded levels.\u00a0 He has managed up to this point to avoid this lot , obviously not purposely ,but avoiding just the same, and we will now find out what kind of horse the spqr6th stables really has.\u00a0 Has the numbers, but not the class to draw on.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Would be a major upset.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

BROKEN BOULEVARD<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

As mentioned earlier , he has had a nice healthy competition with Dutch Henry, beating that one in the Affirmative G 3 back in June of this year ,and followed that with a win in the Colorado Sophomore, and all this coming off a nice race in the G 2 Captain Hook where jockey T. Ace just missed making it the start of a triple. In his last he tried his luck in the G 1 Goody Good and ran a nice race with T. Ace aboard once again, just missing the board with a solid fourth, and the field was not loaded with slouches as many were top dogs, and would be considered big favorites here. On the down side T.Ace has decided to go with Union Rails ( must be a contractual obligation ) and so picks up M. Walker for the mount.<\/span><\/p>\n

Jockey Jump is puzzling…. an outsider here but just.<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Oil On Display has been an active G1 runner this season, but he has not had a ton of luck, even though his SP ratings have been very good. In the Hit Me G 1, he ran pretty much as he always does, but the speed was slow that day for the track, and his chances of advancing also wavered ,with Packin The Heat ,and Kyger Station finishing ahead of him.\u00a0 In The Bob Woodward he faces many of the same, and again his time was a dismal 108, and for this lot, this generally means doom, but he launched himself into top spot in a reversal of rolls.\u00a0 Finally in his last, he was looking to make it two in a row, breaking away from that lot he had been tangling with, only to see a few others run great races, and leaving him doing what he normally does, being one run. In that race he faced Broken Boulevard who hit the board just in front of him.<\/span><\/p>\n

Will need a whole lot of funny stuff to go on I think for this to work for him.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

NIGHTMARE SCENARIO<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Nightmare Scenario, and the mightyforego5 stables, seem to have been really choosing good spots for this one all season long ,and the horse has showed his appreciation by running some fine races, well helping the stable to bank some nice cash. In his last, and only poor race of the season , he looked to have no interest in running, and finished mid pack going off as the favorite in the G2 ,The Holla, and we will chuck that one out, knowing he is capable of much better. His only encounter with any of these lot is against Washington Huskies in the G1 Clerk Of Scales where he put that one away, just missing the win after having gotten the lead in the stretch only to have another steal it from him. Hard to gauge this one, his workman like efforts make him one to watch , but his times have been on the slow side\u00a0 while winning.<\/span><\/p>\n

The reigning local champion here in Kentucky, The Hound comes off an Alw. win just recently in a tune up for this race ,and won by a solid 2 lengths with a very nice 111 SP, probably his best race since the Cosmopolitan G 1 where he was much the best against a good portion of the present field, leaving little doubt he is good enough for these, however his races in between were shall we say\u00a0 better left for dead as in left for dead G 1, where he failed to fire, and ended up a fading 10th while another in here Packin The Heat just missed the podium. He once again failed to fire in the G3 Long Acres. Might be finally coming back on form just in time but badly needs a rest.<\/span><\/p>\n

A Contender on his best<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

The reigning Breeders Bowl Dirt Mile Champ has\u00a0 gone 4 for 6 this season with another just missing at the wire for the place. His last at the level produced only fair results for him, where he met quite a few of this group, and finished behind them all. It was obvious he could not get his way on the top end that day, and this may have played a major roll, as many of the late challengers prevailed leaving only one, The Hound to stay as a front runner. He will not find these easy this day either, but cannot be denied a serious look into repeating at the distance and it would not surprise me. K’s Gorgo is coming off a nice prep in the ALW, race where he romped easily.<\/span><\/p>\n

Could be the one.<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

KYGER STATION<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Has proven he can run with these, and definitely can get a share on his best,\u00a0 but unfortunately he is also very inconsistent, and his recent shows him being off form. He loves to come from off the pace, and will get plenty of front end speed to run at.\u00a0 He will need however need much luck, as many others in here also like to pick up the pieces, and some of them are major contenders who are running better than him right now. He hooked up with Oil On Display in his last, and was trounced where the latter won, and this is not there first encounter having beaten that one twice in both the Hit Me and the Charles Town G 1’s. He will see that one again here and it will be interesting to see which one of those performances he produces.<\/span><\/p>\n

Coming off the G2 Middle Ground, where a winner prepping for this race, Dutch Henry has taken a bit of a different route getting here, not going after the big prizes all the time, but by skirting the levels below ,and doing well. He has gotten a bit of a rivalry with another in here in Broken Boulevard ,and each has gotten the better of the other. His last G 1 try was back in April in the Wooden Indian, where jockey Warrick just seemed a little late to make the move for the rallying type, getting up to be 5th in the final strides, keeping Broken Boulevard behind him. That day Barb’s Evil Laugh who was on a terror at the time was a good winner so the profile is a high one for him.<\/span><\/p>\n

Might be\u00a0 just a step behind this lot.<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

UNION RAILS<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Union Rails has had a tough time of it this year since finishing off last season with a G 1 win in the Movieland Futurity.\u00a0<\/span>He actually looked to be a beaten horse back in May, when running a succession of very bad races at the G 1 level ,being beaten by quite a few of these in the Bluegrass , but since being freshened up ,he moved back to the Alw levels, where he scored in a small field ,and got his confidence back somewhat ,trying a G 2 level race next and hitting the board. Nice to have him back\u00a0 but this could be a disaster for the old confidence once this is done if not at his best. He likes the lead and will have a lot to contend with on the front end in this one<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Coming into the G 1 Outhouse, Going Medieval was on a nice little run, placing in both the San Dimas, and the New Hampshire G 2’s, where he is sort of one run, but has proven to be a tough little customer to get by. In the Outhouse it looks like the speed was more than he could handle right off, and he could never get into his game. This is the most likely reason why a couple in here were able to make big moves in the stretch to pass him at the wire.\u00a0 His speeds have been solid up to this point which makes him a solid possibility to hit the board.<\/span><\/p>\n

Would not bet him but he would not be a surprise either.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Hard to look past the last performance where he ran in the G 3 Northern Derby ,and smoked his fastest SP of the season, winning easily. Not On The Agenda loves the lead, and likes to open ,and generally this is a tactic that works very well for him, however a strange thing happened well on route to the office ,and in the G 1 Travers, he laid an egg, smoking to the lead as usual, but fading terribly, finishing well back. If there was any consolation that day, it was that another in here Broken Boulevard also had a bad day ,and came in behind Agenda. I think it is best to let that one slide, as his performances around that race were very good in good company ,with scores to show for both of them.<\/span><\/p>\n

If he gets away on the lead he could steal it, problem is there are many in here who will try to go with him and this may not bold well for him\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/a><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0Just A Quick Breakdown\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

I think it is clear we have four horses who will try their best to get the lead but Not On The Agenda will reign supreme here. The Hound, K’s Gorgo and Union Rails will also be there with Packin The Heat and Going Medieval hot their tails. Oil On Display, Broken Boulevard, Kyger Station, Washington Huskies and Nightmare Scenario will settle in the middle and Speight Knight, Gang Related and Dutch Henry will find the rear. At the middle of the race Not On The Agenda should have a nice four to five length lead with The Hound a couple of lengths back and K’s Gorgo and Packin The He stalking the pace which should be quick. Union Rails might be showing signs of weakening at this time and should start moving back ever so slightly. Not much will have happened at this point with the exception of Speight KNight who has now got a clear lead on the rear of the pack. Coming into the \u00a0home stretch much is happening as Not On The Agenda lead has been cut to three or less, as the Hound , K’s Gorgo and Packin The Heat are making their moves, Going Medieval, Night mare Scenario , Oil On Display \u00a0and Broken Boulevard are battling it out for position, Union Rails and Washington Huskies have now noticibly backed out as has Kyger Station and Dutch Henry is now on a major move from the back of the pack. Speight Knight is also moving pushing Gang Related to the rear. Why I chose the finishing order I did. I just felt Gang Related and Union Rails were outclassed in this field. Speight Knight although quite capable along with Washington Huskies are in serious need of rest and will falter because of it , others it might just be form of the moment. I also thought that most of the great rally types were hurting right now and the front runners were exceptional. Realistically i had K’s Gorgo finishing in fifth but after closer look I \u00a0think he is good for one more before being sheltered. This comes with bragging rights to the race itself being the reigning champion. Many of the great front runners also have a tendency to back off somewhat .<\/span><\/p>\n
