As part of the undercard, the Grade II Dell Web Mile reunites a group of nine solid milers over the always firm lawn. Let’s take a closer look at them:

1 SEVEN DAY STREAK– STREET CRY x DYNAFORMER x A.P. INDY – At the start of 2015, he looked like a horse who had lost a step or two from his 2014 form, in which he won a total of six races. However, and specifically his last races, we have started to see some of that old form coming, finishing a solid second in the Saratoga Firm Turf Route, which was his last effort. It is true that he has not been able to win at a stakes level yet, but his speed figures compare favorably with the best in here, takes a bit of a cutback in distance and he can be a nice upset at 7/1.

2 EXCAPE – DANSILI (GB) x DISTANT VIEW x SADLER’S WELLS – He is one of the quickest out of the gate and the defending champion of this race and only Grade I winner of this bunch, taking last year’s Cobbler Mile from start to finish. In his last race, trainer blankpoin9 tried a new style of running for his horse, taking him way back of the group, but finishing well in the Grade II The Sparkler Handicap. Seeing all the speed signed in for this race, it might not be a bad idea to repeat those tactics. He has a good chance, but 5/1 is a little low for my liking.

3 UNFORGETTABLE SONG – UNBRIDLED’S SONG x GIANT’S CAUSEWAY x DYNAFORMER – This colt ran on dirt over his first eight starts, but on his last four, trainer nobiz has taken his horse’s talents over the lawn, and he has performed nicely so far. One win and two seconds in four races on grass tell the story, but that last race was an atypical out of the money finish that propelled nobiz to give the horse a two month rest, with this race on their radar for a long time. He has been working steadily for Saturday, and if he can replicate those first two effort on the green stuff, he can be part of the exotics.

4 WIDOW’S VENGEANCE– LONHRO x KRIS S. x CAERLEON – Lightly raced colt that started his career very late last year, but in that short span has shown unquestionable talent. Six wins in seven tries so far, a multiple stakes winner already and a Grade III conqueror. His only defeat was when he climbed up the ladder in the Grade I The Queens Sam, a race in which he did not disgrace himself at all. Now he is a lil bit more mature, and should be attacking from mid race on from the coveted garden spot, and will be my pick to win this event.

5 SCALDED LEOPARD – PIVOTAL x NUREYEV x NIJINSKY 2ND – He is another one who should be part of the early pace of this race, the problem with him is that lately, he has not been able to withstand much pressure up front. His last outings have left a lot to be desired, and, for him to have a chance here, he needs a top notch effort. He has been running in nothing but Grade Is and IIs since the middle of 2014, so maybe a drop in class is in order to try to recover back some confidence. Too big of a risk, and 7/1 is too low of a price on him.

6 BUSHY TAIL – BIG BROWN x TALE OF THE CAT x SADLER’S WELLS – He is by far the veteran of this group, with a total of thirty lifetime starts, of which he has crossed the wire in front in half of them. In looking at his past performances, we can see he is a Bayern-like front runner, meaning that his best races have come when he can establish a clear early lead. Is is doubtful he can do this with all the speedsters signed in, let’s see if trainer lynnydee can teach him how to rate effectively. Rumor is he has been training in company and with a target in front of him. Wait and see approach at short 5/1 odds.

7 CLIFFS OF DOONEEN – HENRYTHENAVIGATOR x RED RANSOM x MR. PROSPECTOR – This colt has been coming into his peek slowly but surely. His last three races tell us he is in tip top shape, and the way the race should be run benefits him. He just scored his first graded win, a fairly easy win in the Grade II The Sunny MIle in Berkshire, a race in which he won with something left. He is hoping for a speed duel up front where he can pick the pieces and win pulling away in the stretch. No question he is the horse to beat, and the 7/2 morning line odds are more than justified.

8 PLAY ACTION – SYMBOLI KRIS S x DANEHILL DANCER x MACHIAVELLIAN – This is a very good three year old colt challenging older and more seasoned horses. He has been in front in each and every marker of the first three splits of his races, so he has the same problem that others have in this event; the quantity and quality of the speed in this race. Speed figure wise, he is not that far away from the best in here, but class wise, he needs to improve a lot in order to score in here.

9 THETRUTHMAYSCAREU – DUBAWI (IRE) x STORM CAT x UNBRIDLED – It sounds redundant, but here is another speedster trying to win his first graded level race. And for this one, the post he drew is not to his advantage at all. I imagine trainer billzpaid1 will give the following clear and simple instructions to his jockey: send him at all costs. And if he clears them, watch out. He is a monster in those circumstances. He has six weeks between races, so he should come fresh and ready for this event, and looks very dangerous at 4/1 odds.

Picks:

4 WIDOW’S VENGEANCE

7 CLIFFS OF DOONEEN

9 THETRUTHMAYSCAREU

Its a big day down in Southern California, with four stakes races, three of them Graded, with the Grade I

[2

post-31701","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-previews
["GET
