With just the one horse with double figure odds (10/1 at that), this field makes for a punters nightmare.

The Walnut BB mile has traditionally been a race for horses who like to sit midfield during the race and grind home to out tough their opponents. Horses such as 2004 winner Kid Fabulous and 2002 winner Dinky Liquor are perfect examples of horses that had the necessary toughness needed to win this race. World of Trouble will be looking to emulate the feats of 2003 winner Miss Ginger and become only the second filly to win this race. 4/1 favourite Barely Limp, a natural leader in his races, will be looking to buck the trend of horses who have tried to lead all the way without luck in the past and lead from start to end.

1. Last Groom T- 5yo Horse – Gone West x Blushing Groom x Crème dela Crème. This horse has been freshened up since his last start in the G1 Canada Mile and this break could be telling in the dying stages of the race. His last three runs have been in group company with a win only three starts ago in the G1 Jack the Man stakes. This should hold him in good steed to compete with other horses in this race who’s form has been in inferior company. If he is running anywhere near what he is capable of he should win this race, and at 5/1 is definitely worth a bit of your hard earned. My only concern for this horse is the booking of young jockey A. Domiguez. This kid hasn’t been in the best form this year and eastecho99 will be hoping that he can turn his luck around in this race.

2. Barely Limp- 7yo Horse – Black Tie Affair x Full Extent x Dike
Barely Limp is the favourite with the bookies at 4/1and while he has been running consistently well it has been in stakes races and Alw races against easier opposition than what he’s up against here. With a race record of 5 wins and 2 seconds for the year though it will be a brave man who backs against this horse. As earlier mentioned this guy is a natural leader in his races and the history of winners in this race says he might just get nabbed on the line. For jimmyv24’s sake I hope he can do what no other horse has done and lead all the way to the post.

3. Cry of the fox – 6yo Horse – Dayjur x Ahonoora x Nijinky II
Cjt1 has dropped Cry of the fox back in distance for this race. He has been running o.k. of late with out setting the world on fire. A major improvement would be needed for this horse to be troubling the leaders at the finish line as he seems to be better suited to Alw races these days. Cry of the fox hasn’t tasted group success since he burst onto the scene as a 2 year old in the Flying Saucer Stakes and at 10/1 is probably the deserved outsider of the field.

4. Big Thunder – 5yo Horse – Thunder Gulch x Arazi x Gulch
Not unlike most of his rivals Big Thunder has been performing consistently leading up to this race. The saying goes there is no rest for the wicked and let me tell you this horse must be as wicked as they come because he is having his 17th start for the year. This iron horse may just have the necessary grit and determination required to win a race such as this, that is if he has anything left in the tank after what would have to be one of the busiest schedules in the sim. Bookies have him at 8/1 and I won’t be surprised to see him fill one of the minor place positions.

5. Stereotypical Cat – 4yo colt – Tale of the cat x Broad Brush x Grey dawn II
This son of Tale of the cat is hitting form at the right time of the year. His last start win in a small field over 9F was just the race he needed leading up to this. Theleague has him looking a treat and with R Simcox on board I expect to see this horse right in the finish. Like Big Thunder this colt has had a busy schedule this year, this week being his 16th start. This may be just enough to turn punters off backing this horse at 5/1 but I believe he’ll be around about at the finish.

6. Awesome Giant – 4yo colt – Giants Causeway x Awesome Again x Alleged
Awesome Giant is a superbly bred colt who has like most of the other horses in this race has been performing well in stakes company. Having only twice finished out of the top five it is hard to see him putting in a bad one here. He has won his last two starts and looks to be doing everything right leading up to this race. At 7/1 he is far from the worst in the race and his style of racing is exactly what has been successful in the past. This horse is definitely the value runner in the race and looks a good each way chance.

7. Giant’s Banjo – 4yo colt – Dixieland Band x Giant’s Causeway x Ack Ack
Two starts ago itsalock would have been on top of the world after Giant’s Banjo ran an SP of 108 in the G2 Fried Rice Mile for a third placing. After that he came out and ran a 93 in a stakes race and came 12th. As frustrating as this must be it must also be exiting owning a horse that is such an enigma like this one. I must say I am intrigued by its performances and will be watching with interest to see how it performs on Saturday. If the real Giant’s Banjo turns up at California I can’t see a horse beating it home and I’d imagine there’d be some nervous bookies out there holding figures of 8/1 for this horse.

8. World of Trouble – 4yo filly- Giant’s Causeway x Fappiano x Lyphard
The only filly in the race is all class. Impeccably bred, this girl must have cost zwylde a fortune. She has already paid for herself though by winning over half a million dollars in prize money. Her biggest win came last start in the G3 Numbers don’t lie stakes over 6F. For all of her great form though there are a couple of downsides to her being in this race. Firstly she will be trying to become only the second filly to win this race and secondly there is a big question mark over her at this distance. Her best form has been over less ground than the mile and in a race like this you really need to be proven over the journey. At 5/1 I think she may be a little bit under what she should be.

9. Come On You Blues – 6yo Horse – A.P. Indy x Mr. Prospector x Buckpasser
How this horse is only 5/1 has got me. If you take away his start in the Fried Rice two starts ago he is by far the best performed horse in the race this year. He is proven over the distance, has a good enough jockey on board to give him every chance and is arguably the best bred horse in the race. He like Barely Limp is a natural leader and if these two find themselves in a battle for the lead early they could set up the race for something to come from the tail of the field and swoop home to beat them. The only reason I’ll be steering clear of this horse is it’s run two starts ago when it only managed to run an SP of 6.

This could be one of the best races seen so far this year so do yourself a favour and tune in to the California races and see how this race pans out. As I said earlier this race is a punters nightmare but I’ll have a go anyway;

1st- Last Groom T
2nd- Awesome Giant
3rd- Barely Limp.

Good luck to all involved.
McSheen

[2

post-3139","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-previews
["GET
