This son of the Garbaccio family sire Crusader Sword has 32 stakes points, way, way more than anyone else in this field. In fact, you could add up everybody else’s points and only come up with 18 points. As often happens in these stakes races, however, the one who has done the most may not be in the best current form. The Walnut was a badly beaten eighth last out right here at West Virginia, but that stake was only 5.5 furlongs. Just to be fair, I am gonna draw a line through that race. Bob has three stakes victories this year in the 11 total wins in his bob123g stable, so he knows how to grab the big prize. Also, who could not be rooting for Bob to finally take one of these competitions after watching his brother Wassie dominate for the past several years? This horse ran a pretty nice third two back going 6.5 furlongs, and he has as much right as anybody in here to enjoy the extra ground. I think he surely will like it better than 5.5, put it that way.

It’s another contest horse qualifying second, PERFECTION FORME, for out of Chuckrock’s cvd3 barn. This late-running son of Pleasantly Perfect has been second three times in a row now in the first allowance condition, running improved speed figs in his last two in a row. The ability to close ground late at 6 furlongs does suggest that this horse could well have the ability in him to handle the stretchout to almost a mile. Like Vegas Bob, Chuck has an amazing record of winning a lot of his races this year in stakes competition. Of eight wins this year in the cvd3 stable, four were in stakes.

The first non-contest spoiler is WINDYXIE for the airjordyn barn, and this one looks dangerous. By A.P. Indy out of airjordyn’s classy Grade C Summer Squall mare Summer Sluice, this on ran a fat 82 last out at seven furlongs in clearing his first condition. This one is a blue blood through and through who looks like he should have every right to handle the distance. This barn has won an unreal 32 races already this year, from only 94 starts for a strike percentage of an ungodly 34 percent. However, NONE of those 32 wins were in stakes competition. Who has a better chance of winning a stake? A 10 percent trainer with multiple stakes wins, or a 34 percent trainer with no stakes wins? We’ll find out here in a few hours.

Qualifying fourth is the second half of a very strong entry for Chuckrock. He’s got two of the top four qualifiers in here, a very strong hand indeed. MADNESS OFTHE KING, by Cat Thief, has been running some very strong speed figures, three straight in the 80s. That’s big. This horse comes from way, way out of it,and should he appear in the race viewer at any point in the stretch, has a chance to win. He also has shown ability at today’s exact distance, closing from the clouds to be third in a Tennessee stake going 7.5 last out. This would be the first stake win for Chuck’s traschel outfit this year. He’ll be looking for a speed duel early to set up the potent late kick for Madness Ofthe King. Both of Chuck’s runners in here are coming from behind.

It’s another spoiler in fifth, ALY’S BUCKLAND for joenova. This son of the Storm Cat sire Newfoundland looks to have a world of potential rapidly improving speed figure wise and making only his fourth start here. Unlike Chuckrock’s closers, this one should be right in the mix early, and judging from that pace-pessing race last out going 6.5 urlongs, he very well could be on the front going today’s distance of 7.5. Joenova only has five wins this year, but two of those are stakes wins, so he knows how to win the big ones.

That was the last horse in the race with even a single stakes points. The rest of them are coming in with zero.

Back to the contest horses with the next qualifier. It’s HADAYA for two-time champion Ts1442 Tom. This son of Event of the Year is interesting because he is different from many of the others in terms of today’s distance. Almost everybody else is stretching out, while Hadaya cuts back in distance half a furlong from his maiden-breaking score last out going a mile. He closed from eighth to win that day in Kentucky. Continually picking horses their first time against winners is probably a low-ROI angle, but at least this one can handle the distance, and Kentucky is a lot classier track than the Mountain Oval. Tom is having a terrific year with this ts1442 outfit, winning 18 races and two stakes at a very healthy 16.8 percent clip.

SOUTH BOUND SAUREZ is another potential spoiler, out of the zewango1 barn. This one looks a lot like Hadaya, coming in here off a closing score to break his maiden at a classy track. This one came in Florida, going 7 furlongs. So, this son of Spinning World appears to have the right to run at today’s distance, but what about today’s class. We’ll find out, won’t we? The barn is having a solid year, hitting them at 13.3 percent with 14 total wins. This would be his first stake score of the year.

The next one is another we’ll be rooting for, just like Las Vegas Bob. Nextbonus Bill brings GOTCHA from his potent gordonlyn outfit. The West Virginia Stakes Competition is just about the last mountain to climb in the Sim for Nextbonus, as he’s won graded stakes from here to there, and wins consistently, as evidenced by the fat 19.1 strike rate he’s enjoying this year with this gordonlyn outfit. That just goes to show how tough this competition is. One of the Sim’s best has had a hard time cracking the standings. He’s running a filly here. Gotcha is a daughter of his Grade G mare Gotcha Again, and looks a lot in the form like Tom’s Hadaya. Broke her maiden last out going a mile at the classy Louisiana track. She can get the distance. Can she get the class?

MR. AWESOME for bigmoose2 tried to make the move last out that the previous three are trying today. That is, the jump straight into stakes competition off an impressive maiden score. This son of Awesome Again did not embarrass himself, running fifth in a Vermont stake going a mile. He broke his maiden at the distance, always a plus. Another point in this son of Awesome Again’s favor is the proficiency of his trainer. Bigmoose2 is having a very good year, winning 14 races at 19.4 percent. Two of those were stake wins. It would be no shock of Mr. Awesome hit the board here.

JUST ONE LOOK is the second half of the Nextbonus entry, also out of his gordonlyn barn. It’s another fillly, this one a daughter of Spinning World. She broke her maiden at the distance, then ran a very good second last out against the boys in her first allowance condition going a mile, with a very good 83 speed figure. It’s a couple of very nice fillies that Nextbonus brings to the Mountain Oval today.

LOS CARRERAS for santacruz is another potential spoiler. This son of Belong To Me broke his maiden at first asking going 5.5 furlongs, then was seventh in a Pa. stake going 6.5 furlongs. His speed figs in the 70s are a notch below the several in here who have gone up in the 80s, and you don’t know about the stretchout. Santacruz is having a respectable year, winning nine races at 13.6 percent. This would be his first stake win of the year.

APT TO WIN puts buzzfarms in action this week. This son of Aptitude has been stabled right here at the Spa of the Appalachians for two straight starts now. After running a solid second in his career debut in Kentucky, buzz loaded the van and brought this charge to West Virginia, where he broke his maiden going 6. It was straight into stakes competition last out. Apt To Win stayed in contention to the head of the lane in the November Launchy Bonanza back in week 2958, then faded to seventh. Sometimes they need a race or two to get used to the advanced competition of a new class level, and one might look for an improved run this time. Buzz has seven wins so far this year with this barn, and is looking for his first stakes victory.

One may have been wondering, where is the champ? Where is the three-time West Virginia Stakes Competition champion Wassie? He’s down here in 13th qualifying spot with ALYACADEMY G. This brown colt is by Forestry and is the fourth offspring of Wassie’s brillant Grade C mare Alyacademy Academy. What a wonderful race mare she was, rolling up no fewer than seven stakes victories in her career, which saw her earn just under half a million Sim bucks. She’s already thrown a stakes winner and a stakes placed horse, and looks to make it three of four in stakes progeny with this one. The horse was thrashed in his only stakes try, four back here in the Kick up Your Heels Memorial, but since then has shown ability at today’s distance by running a decent third last out going a mile in allowance company. The speed figures are a little lacking, however. Wassie is having a real nice year with this jgjg barn, winning five stakes races already.

Finally, we have TAHER for Ts1442 Tom, out of his julie barn. It’s hard to know much about this colt, as he’s making his career debut in here. By Touch Gold out of Tom’s Grade F mare Forty Indy, he’s found a heck of a spot for his first career race. Forty Indy has thrown some runners, though. This is her fourth offspring, and two of the first three are stake winners.

GOOD LUCK EVERYBODY!!!!!

W.Va.
