What, you thought I was actually thinking about Election Day in the States?\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Ha!\u00a0 <\/SPAN>I laugh at that.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Everyone knows the real excitement doesn\u2019t come at the polls, but at the gate.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>And as the prep race schedule begins to wind down, as we head towards Week 3028, the stars are aligning for racing\u2019s day of champions in <\/SPAN>Kentucky<\/SPAN><\/st1:place><\/st1:State>.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>This week, it\u2019s time to go French, as Longchamp plays host to a star-studded card of racing.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Between Horseshoe Bay making a bid towards victory in the Ark De Triumph, and General\u2019s Chariot chasing $4,000,000 in the Longchamp Sprint, a compact field (for the Sim) shoots for the ultimate marathon test, the sixth running of the $275,000 Longchamp Marathon<\/B>, a Grade II endurance test covering two miles on a firm grass course.\u00a0 <\/SPAN><\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/P>

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/P>

The $275,000 Question is, \u201cCan a Breeders Bowl contender, or champion, come from this field on the same card as the Ark De Triumph or any of the other many graded turf marathons across the Sim?\u201d\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Well, it can indeed happen here: A Rub Of Irish was second here last year, and went on to be third in last year\u2019s BB Turf.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>And Dante(GB) could only manage fifth here in 2003, but he went on to be second in the 2003 Turf.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>The race is possibly overdue to produce a BB winner, and with Top 10 marathoners Worldfly\u2019s Wells<\/B> and Band Of Budas <\/B>in this octet, this Grade II could be an easy spot for some classy horses to prep for that big November day.<\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/P>

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/P>

But what if it was the road to that other<\/I> big November day?\u00a0 <\/SPAN>What could that particular path look like?\u00a0 <\/SPAN>As we examine this field of eight older turfers, let\u2019s have a tongue-in-cheek look-see\u2026<\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/P>

Picture it: a week before the other big November day.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>The candidates are running for the office of Longchamp Marathon Champion of the Sim universe.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>It\u2019s a wide open field, and the candidates are doing two things at once: while they try to make themselves look good, their opponents are trying to make them look bad.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>For every commercial supporting the candidate\u2019s pros, there are ads which try and provide an opposing view, fair or not:<\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/I><\/P>

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/I><\/P>

Hey Hollandia(<\/SPAN><\/B>IRE<\/SPAN><\/B><\/st1:stockticker>)<\/SPAN><\/B> [High Chaparral(<\/SPAN>IRE<\/SPAN><\/st1:stockticker>) x Peintre Celebre(<\/SPAN>IRE<\/SPAN><\/st1:stockticker>), trained by oostende<\/I><\/B>]<\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/P>

PRO<\/SPAN><\/I><\/B>: \u201cHey Hollandia(<\/B><\/SPAN>IRE<\/SPAN><\/B><\/st1:stockticker>)<\/SPAN><\/B>, the one to lead us into a new frontier of racing.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>He\u2019s from proud Irish stock, bred to handle the job requirements and a proud and faithful star-spangled patriot.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>He\u2019s a proven winner going long distances, with a definitive win last out in a <\/SPAN>Rhode Island<\/SPAN><\/st1:place><\/st1:State> event, and from that event he has shown himself fully capable of charging from the deepest deficits into a victorious surplus.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>He\u2019s shown consistent growth as a youthful four-year-old, and with four major victories in the war on grass racing, has shown an innate ability to continue to combat opposing forces.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>For an effective weapon to rally the troops and close the deal in a marathon, look no further than Hey Hollandia(<\/B><\/SPAN>IRE<\/SPAN><\/B><\/st1:stockticker>)<\/SPAN><\/B> in the Longchamp Marathon.\u201d<\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/P>

CON<\/SPAN><\/I><\/B>: \u201cHey Hollandia(<\/B><\/SPAN>IRE<\/SPAN><\/B><\/st1:stockticker>)<\/SPAN><\/B>\u2026he claims to be a proven winner going long distances, but what do we really know about his record?\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Sure he\u2019s a proven winner, except that he\u2019s neglected to mention that the wins he claims were against\u2026listed competition<\/I>.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>He claims to go from deep deficits to surpluses, but when it came time to \u201crally the troops\u201d on a big Grade I <\/SPAN>New York<\/SPAN><\/st1:place><\/st1:State> stage two primaries ago, he faltered and eventually cut and run, retreating in the field.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>And his rallies are only effective when there\u2019s another opponent or two setting the pace.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Lastly, he may have been \u2018effective\u2019 before, but the poll numbers don\u2019t lie.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>His popularity as measured by speed figures show he\u2019s only cracked the 100 barrier just once in his twenty-two starts.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>And with an overall ranking of #33 in the division, he\u2019s not shown himself reliable enough to rise through the ranks. Hey Hollandia(<\/B><\/SPAN>IRE<\/SPAN><\/B><\/st1:stockticker>)<\/SPAN><\/B>: a one-dimensional closer while others take charge.\u201d<\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/P>

CON<\/SPAN><\/B>: \u201cOtto Platinum<\/B>\u2026rising star, or na\u00efve neophyte?\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Let\u2019s look at the facts: in nine primary events, she has six wins, but none of these were on a big stage as the Longchamp Marathon is.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Whenever she tried to advance her own ambitions, she\u2019s proven only that she falls short, like when she was third in the High And Low Marathon, a graded primary in which she started slow, and finished slower.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>She might say<\/I> she\u2019s a versatile contender, but actually her best poll numbers occurred while running versus allowance-level opponents, and have not come close to threatening 100.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>It takes more than carefully chosen words to produce a winner\u2026what does Otto Platinum<\/B> have to show for her short, abbreviated career?\u201d<\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/P>

Final word<\/SPAN><\/B>: With a ranking against fillies of #236, and only nine career starts under her belt, and only one failed graded or even stakes-level try among those, it\u2019s a hard climb.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>But sitting off the lead, as she prefers, could be to her advantage, as most in here are either deep threats or cheap speed.<\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/P>

CON<\/SPAN><\/I><\/B>: \u201cWestern Sculpture<\/B> talks a good game, but let\u2019s look closely at his story, and some troubling sections of his past don\u2019t bear up well to the scrutiny.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>He\u2019s had five different trainers in his career, and yet no successful experience racing in graded primaries at the highest level.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>He sets a pace, but cannot sustain the growth in the long term.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>And he\u2019s a carpetbagger in the division, with more success in his career going shorter distances than truly contending at the marathon events.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Finally, the \u201che-mare\u201d notion is a challenge to traditional approaches.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Ask yourself: do voters deserve a challenge to their security by a colt that is headstrong, inexperienced at the task and an unknown at long-term consistency with his poll speed figures at a higher level?\u201d<\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/P>

Final word<\/SPAN><\/B>: Truly a versatile veteran, between success at different class levels and distance, he needs to put it together again in a smaller graded field.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>As a front-runner, though, he\u2019ll face pressure, particularly up front early, and there\u2019s where his trouble might lie.<\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/P>

CON<\/SPAN><\/I><\/B>: \u201cWorldfly\u2019s Wells<\/B>.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>He\u2019s a veteran campaigner, a safe choice, an experienced runner.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>In other words, he\u2019s the ultimate insider, and another wealthy patron of influence on racing, with a war chest of over $1.25 million.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>He\u2019s had many starts in which to show excellence, but he\u2019s now an Establishment candidate, someone who has seen the fruits of success but is now eager to hold on to his \u201celite\u201d status for so long.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>His record shows that though he has earned some respect, maybe it\u2019s time for some fresh blood in the Longchamp Marathon, ones who don\u2019t distort truth<\/I>.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>He\u2019s a one-dimensional speed type who hasn\u2019t earned a poll speed figure of 100 in over a year.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>When he claims to have earned a paycheck in just about every primary, he forgets to mention he tried dirt last time, and he wound up\u2026inhaling it when being badly outrun late!\u00a0 <\/SPAN>And while he has earned consistently decent performances, he\u2019s eager to maintain his status at all cost, including the cost of wear and tear.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>The Longchamp Marathon is a place for new beginnings and fresh ideas.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Worldfly\u2019s Wells<\/B>: too much of an insider for a Sim Grade II primary event?\u201d<\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/P>

Final word<\/SPAN><\/B>: Toss the last on dirt, and you have a very consistent colt who has paid his dues in a long campaign, but one for which his competitive edge may have been dulled; his numbers are solid, but though he\u2019s been close, he\u2019s not broken the century mark in his figs in over a year.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>There are not many who can run with him early, but can he withstand the deep threats late here?<\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/P>

PRO<\/SPAN><\/I><\/B>: \u201cIf you\u2019re looking for a candidate with ethics, morals and no baggage, Rainbow Moonshell<\/B> is the one who was born to take charge.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>His r\u00e9sum\u00e9 is impeccable: a 12-length win last time; a bronze finish in the Equinics early this year; eight stakes wins, including a Grade I; 14 poll speed figures of over 100, including a career-(and race-)high of 112; a #25 ranking.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>He\u2019s consistent enough to have earned money in each of his last ten starts.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>There aren\u2019t many other horses to stake claims to items like that, all at once.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>The wave of the future is here, and it\u2019s all about riding a Rainbow: Rainbow Moonshell<\/B>.\u201d<\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/P>

PRO<\/SPAN><\/I><\/B>: \u201cCasey\u2019s Quest<\/B> is a veteran\u2019s quest.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>A quest for returning the values of early speed and solid performances to the Longchamp Marathon.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>A quest to return a favorite stalwart into the winner\u2019s circle in a graded event.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>A quest to insure that the old-timers have their day and their say in places that matter to you<\/I>.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Casey\u2019s Quest<\/B> has speed and stamina, that strong mixture of which leaders are made.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>He was a strong leader on the comeback trail last time in the Archer Cup, and proved that the division is deeper and more diverse than just your run-of-the-mill turf specialists.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Casey\u2019s Quest<\/B>: building a bridge from yesterday to tomorrow, for the Sim, for the Longchamp Marathon.\u201d<\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/P>

CON<\/SPAN><\/I><\/B>: \u201cCasey\u2019s Quest<\/B>, a stalwart warrior from the past, is now trying to make a comeback.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Is he exercising sound judgment?\u00a0 <\/SPAN>He faded in the Archer Cup after tiring late.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>He last broke 100 in the poll figures back in July of last year.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>He last won a graded event back in 2004.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Casey\u2019s Quest<\/B>: a capable horse, but shouldn\u2019t he be fighting battles closer to home instead of at Longchamp?\u201d<\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/P>

Final word<\/SPAN><\/B>: He\u2019ll play with the leaders, but his hopes hinge on how fast the early pace is, and how much of his own speed he can hold in reserve to call upon as needed.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>His form is pretty solid and competitive among these, but the distance on current form is a question mark.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>He was sixth here two years back, and needs to show something extra here.<\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/P>

PRO<\/SPAN><\/I><\/B>: \u201cMockingbird<\/B> comes from strong bloodlines, with her brother Go Vertigo a stakes winner on grass as well.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Mockingbird<\/B>: channeling the finest reserves of energy her pedigree suggests to become a threat in the distaff marathon division.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>She\u2019s a unifying force, not a divisive one, and comes from off the pace to lead us all into a new Sim, a new Longchamp Marathon.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>A Grade I winner, as well as a winner versus the colts, she shoots from the hip, and has a late kick giving her the power to persevere.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Why look to yet another colt to charge into the future, when you can have the grace of a Mockingbird<\/B>?\u00a0 <\/SPAN>The \u2018Bird is the word.\u201d<\/o:p><\/SPAN><\/P>
