This year’s event is being held at Jumbo’s Clownroom in Hollywood. Kirby is good friends with the owner, so we got the whole place for a nice discount. The Crown Ireland bar in Kentucky asked that we not come back, or the police would be called; whatever.

The man at the door with the 2 free drink tickets is the New Zealander Rharfo, who hosts this event to celebrate the camaraderie of residency life and it’s a great time for all of us to get together and catch up.

The bar tab tonight will be picked up by long time member Shaghar. He’s the guy at the jukebox playing “Luck Be A Lady Tonight” 15 times in a row.

The guy in his full military uniform is Tops. Guess he thought this was a Halloween party or something.

There’s 3 guys huddled in the corner together, nervous to get socializing. Those would be the 3 newest family members to ASR in Babers, Bullishluck and the bouncer tonight if and when things get rowdy is Desertdog. We’ll get them more comfortable after the night is through.

The man behind the bar is the wizard himself, Master Jacklad. I think he has an excel spreadsheet listed somewhere with the drink concoctions tonight.

There’s a family clan in a booth already in Emmy, JD and Nicky. JD is working on a new breed, Emmy is cleaning out her inbox and Nicky is plotting the stables future races. They all have their laptops out and not saying a word to each other. Weird, but effective.

There’s a commotion going on at the front door, I’ll be right back..

Ok, that was the TMZ and the media trying to get snapshots and interviews from Mr. Lucky and his billion dollar horse. Thanks Desertdog for taking care of that situation.

The guy at the left side of the bar on his cellphone is Sir Astin. From my understanding, he’s on the phone with Websters Dictionary to find out exactly how many “Of” names are actually considered real words.

The longest Vet of ASR is here, chilling with a Rob Roy is Marmac. He’s just enjoying the retired life and wants to hear “One bourbon, one scotch and one beer” really badly, but seems like Shags is committed to Sinatra tonight.

Baffert is late to the party, as word has it he’s busy watching 53 races on an off Thursday. Think some cell phone hot race comps may start when he gets here.

The Tazmanian Taz is here, he’s the guy with Shaghar playing the Golf arcade game in the corner. There seems to be a few hundred dollars sitting on the dash, waiting to be won.

Broohar is here, waiting to start a well, yes broohar. He’s the guy trying to get bets on Saturdays rez race. Word is, he and Astin have a couple thousand dollar side bet on the race.

The other lady of the night is here is her best fashion. Tisjuliet has her head held high as all the male residents are nervous to say anything to her as she can crush most of our horses in any race. So the niceties are abound for the queen of breeding.

Fernando joins the team tonight, but unfortunately it’s mostly waving that’s done as only a few of us can speak the language. The king of residency races is here once again to strike.

Selurvivek has settled in nicely at the center of the bar talking to Jacklad on how they can possibly get 2000 bp’s a week. Think they will figure out before the night is over.

Pogs is the guy shooting pool and asking why the same song has been played 40 times in a row now. Also there was some rumblings about the Cowboys and future Super Bowl bets with Marmac. Dunno.

Anyway gang, the night is underway. The bus to the airport is scheduled for 2am. If you happen to miss the bus for some ungodly reason, Kirby has rented us a few rooms at the Beverly Hill Carlton. Just mention his name and you’ll get the room card.

Glad the family is all here together and thanks to all for providing me and all of us a much higher level of enjoyment to this already crazy game!

Oh there is a race…Let’s look quickly at the ponies for the race.

1) Baff brings Ghost Train Haze to the post. The son of Oasis Dream fired a solid 74 fto, just missing the wire. Solid threat today with 2nd start and closing speed.

2) Mr Lucky brins the first time starter Lucky’s Timely to the gate. The bred in the purple son of Sea The Stars may be behind the eight ball being a first time starter, but with that pedigree can win FTO with no questions.

3) Bullishluck gets his first test of ASR residency races with his starter Heightened. The son of Tiznow ran a solid 3rd fto and expect improvement from this well bred stakes winning mare son.

4) Hobby, the man who can’t seem to lose a rez race this year brings in 10-1 shot Mumbai Slum. The son of Novellist ran a closing 6t place in his first start. A fast pace is expected, and if can improve with 2nd start, will be a major factor late.

5) Broo brings WSOH to the race today (what the heck does that stand for?). Theson of Noble Mission has run 3x already. Improving speed numbers and from a graded place mare spells a nice concoction. Don’t overlook.

6) Master Jacklad brings Swell Spirit to the post today. The son of Invincible Spirit ran 8th in his ASR race debut. May need time or distance, but if he runs to his breeding 2nd time out, can roll the field late

7) Smoke brings PS I Love You to the post. The 13-1 shot winner of this race has run 2x already and ran a close up 2nd lto. Is going to se or pressure the pace today.

8) Tops brings first time starter Keenan’s Kitten to the post today. Tops has many well bred 2 yr old non races, so if this one got tapped , watch out. The son of Kittens Joy out of Mr. Prospector mare is bred for stardom. Does he start his journey today?

9) Shags brings the daughter of Starspalngledbanner to the post today. The only female entrant today, she seems to be special. She ran her first race in an ASR race against the boys already and finished a dead closing 3rd just missing by 1 ¼ lengths. She’s back today to face the ASR boys and with 2nd start, she may be something.

10) Desertdog gets his first taste of the competitive races at ASR. He brings War Face Approved to the post. The son of War Chant is 38-1, but I suspect the public has these odds wrong. Love the mix of War Chant and ds With Approval. War Chant’s have the propensity to either bomb or be very special type horses. Desert is hoping for the latter, which is a very distinct possibility.

11) Marmac brings Ready For The Day to the races. The son of Pivotal looks dangerous today He’s definitely going to be pickng up the pieces late. The 7f marker should help him more. 2nd start closing style and well bred spells danger. From a Gr 1 winning mare as well.

12) Selurnivek taps the son of Frankel, Kurasawa to get the wire first. The beautifully bred bay colt ran in Baff’s Sons of series in his first start. He ran a big race, firing a 77 fto just to miss the photo. Big horse here today and the wire first today is definitely in his reach today.

13) The sponsor of today’s event Rharfo brings Uthinkuhadadream to the post. The 2x starter by Sea The Stars he brings much upside to the prospect of hitting the wire first. Last race, U think ran a hard closing 71, just to miss. Today he gets the ½ furlong more and with the 3rd start, very dangerous.

Well that’s the ponies, people and events tonight gang. Again, thanks to Rharfo, rez members and in particular to Jacklad who makes this rez go!

Smokes useless 5:

1) Selurnivek- Kurasawa- Good speed, 2nd start and can run anywhere near the front to control race.

2) Shags- Vinegar Stroke- Deadly closing speed, 2nd start and seems the part

3) Mr Lucky- Lucky’s Timely- Don’t like picking first time starters against already well run horses, but with that breeding may fire.

4) Baffert- Ghost Train Haze- Very nice fto run, and if improves can win this for fun.

5) Smoke- PS I Love You- Will be in the mix early and hang around for minor awards me thinks.

That’s it gang, enjoy the night and the race!!!!
