Any how, they will not fullfil those expectations without running a big race here, so lets see whats in front of the starter today. There are only six taking on the seven furlongs of perfectly manicured firm turf, but they are all decent and whoever takes the lions share of the £80,000 purse will have earned it.

Stall 1 is the home of one of the 9/5 joint favourites for todays feature, Alba Sea King. Turfwin’s son of King of Kings(IRE) is out of a pretty average race mare, Wet Lois, but with lines like Mr P x Roberto, she was bound to throw up a decent type if given enough chances and this one could be it. He’s visited the course three times thus far, and an initial win in a maiden would seem like scant reward at first glance. However it was won in a very nice early season SP of 71, and his subsequent second was in a listed stakes behind Big Bull, who has won another stakes since, making the form read well. Last place in the GIII Omnipotent Juvenile looks pretty poor, but there were some very handy types in that race and he was only beaten just over 5 lengths so the form is better than at first glance. J Bradley is a more than capable jock round this particular stretch of grass and will probably try to make every post a winning one from the inside berth.

Local Lynchpin Stormdanzg trains the stall 2 runner, Bach is God(IRE), and he hopes that the unraced colt will be a bit decent if the entries are anything to go by. Bach(IRE) is a relatively lightly used sire, but with nearly 50% winners to runners ratio and a stakes runner to his name already, he looks to be a sire going places. Out of a Shirley Heights mare, the green stuff would look to be the ideal surface to begin a career, and while he is undoubtably chucked in at the deep end here, odds of 10/1 indicate that it is not the toughest stakes race ever seen, and a decent debut here under jockey I Smith will certainly show that the Newmarket conglomerate has another decent type. There will be no lack of support for the local pairing of dashing trainer and gormless jockey.

Next up is Newones’ Saddled to go, a decent son of Our Emblem out of a Sadler’s Wells mare. This one created a good impression when winning his maiden, beating a full field very comfortably. A subsequent fifth, only beaten 3 3/4 lengths in a group 2 race seemed to have set him up nicely, but his two subsequent runs have been slightly dissapointing in listed stakes. Fourth on his penultimate start beaten 4 lengths, he was beaten into 3rd in a 4 hores field last time when stepped up to 7.5 furlongs. Dropped back half a furlong today, it will be interesting to see whether jockey T Cooper tries to force the pace in this small field or tries to track the inside runner. A useful type, he may just find one or two of these too good and odds of 6/1 are probably an accurate reflection of his chance today.

Another 6/1 shot comes next from stall 4. Bunny Territory is an interesting runner here for several reasons. Bunnyluv’s son of Indian Territory is out of a proven producer in Sulty Rabbit, a daughter of Gone West out of a Forty Niner mare. She was nothing to write home about on the track, but two of her previous three offspring have won stakes races and this one is attempting to make it three out of four here. When you glance at the horses form, and see that it took four races to break it’s duck, you assume a very average performer. The first two runs were on dirt, however, which clearly doesn’t seem to suit the horse, and the four runs on turf make much better reading. A nice enough maiden win was followed by an eye catching run in a NW2L allowance over todays trip where a scorching late run resulted in second place and a SP of 81. A decent fifth in his first stakes attempt, if jockey A Tuscha can prevent the field getting too far ahead this one could be scything through the field late to have a big say in proceedings.

The Super Stud breaks from stall 5 and whoami1’s modestly named colt is another who has found a lot of improvement since switching to turf. By Menifee out of a Highest Honor(FR) mare, the trainer would be forgiven for trying the dirt track first, and teh horse seemd to like it, with decent runs in four maidens. A switch to turf worked the oracle, however, and the maiden tag was dropped on his first attempt on grass, posting a decent SP of 74 in the process. A step up into allowance class followed, and was again easily negotiated with a facile 1 3/4 length win over todays trip, posting a SP of 78. Whilst today is undoubtedly another step up, it is arguable that the horse may be as unexposed as some of his lightly raced opponents since he has almost had two careers, one on dirt and one on turf. O Jones is a decent jockey round this neck of Suffolk and it will be interesting to see what tactics are adopted on the 9/2 third best chance here today, as he seems equally comfortable wherever he is placed, a refreshingly simple ride for a change.

Stall 6 is the berth for Maplefarms’ In Position and on racecourse form so far, this one has to be the one to beat. By Sky Classic out of a Pharly(FR) mare the only time this imposing type has seen the backside of another horse in his four journeys to the track was last time in the GIII Bad Deal Stakes. He only let one get past him that day, finding no answer to the strong late run of Leo’s Jewels(IRE) but still had daylight between the rest of the field. Saddled to Go is clearly held on the form of his previous win in the Mr Dance Bonanza stakes and his speeds have also been steadily improving. With teh two least likely to force the pace on his immediate inside, top local jockey A Craig is likely to get a dream run from the gates and may well slip even the early pacers in the race. From then on he should find enough to hold these off and 9/5 on the morning line could be a massive price here.

A nice race with some decent proven form coming up against some interesting unexposed types. Unless the debutant is something really special (not beyond the realms of possibility) I can’t see firther than In Position for your winner this afternoon, with The Super stud for second and Bunny Territory running on for the minor honours. Enjoy the feature event of a great days racing and lets hope we are seeing some of the stars of tomorrow.

[2,3,1

post-2997","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-previews","category-reviews","category-uncategorized
["GET
