One of those stakes is the GII Manual Labor Day for all fillies running a whopping two miles on the main track. The race drew some excellent mares including arguably the most dominant sim horse running today in Xtremely Gold, as well as a surprise entrant in La Pata Daisy who makes her dirt debut after 28 races on the grass.

Silks

Post

Name

Trainer

Odds

1

Victory Bells(SAF)

jdawg02

55-1

3yo Dash For Cash filly makes a big jump up in class, and takes on older company for the first time. This is her first start for this trainer after being sold through the auction for an unknown amount. The filly has 12 starts with 2 wins, the most recent victory 4 back at 6 furlongs, and have never tested a listed stake let along graded. She’s faced a route exactly once, and that was a mere mile in her last race. She finished midpack more than 6 lengths out. A nice filly that could develop into a marathoner, but this race is just too far out of her league.

2

Point Break

lacostra

23-1

Trainer Lacostra claimed this 3yo Point Given filly for $25k her first start of the year, and the filly has rewarded her new owner with three wins and three seconds in 7 starts. Stretching her out a bit to around 9.5 furlongs has really helped her record. Last start she went 14 in a nw1x allowance and won by just under a length with an 84SP. There’s every reason to believe she can handle 2 miles, but the lack of stakes experience is a concern. Still, it’s more than possible she’ll earn at least a minor placing.

3

Xtremely Gold

grracers

6-5

She’s the #1-ranked older mare in dirt marathons for a very good reason: no one can touch her. Owned by the GR Simsters, this 5yo Touch Gold mare has shown great versatility (she can take the lead or come from the clouds as she pleases) and a great preference for winning (18 wins from 24 starts is proof of that). her current win streak is 6 straight wins (all graded) and with the exception of a second in an listed stakes on good turf to open the 2006 season, she hasn’t lot since last November. Not much else you can say about this mare, except that it’ll take the performance of a lifetime to beat her in this race.

4

Isabeau(IRE)

foton

32-1

This 5yo Noverre mare is one of the more accomplished in the field. She’s earned just under a quarter-million and has 11 wins to her credit in 41 starts. She’s yet to win a stakes, though she was stakes placed twice as a 4yo in turf starts. She’s back in her breeder’s control (albeit in a different stable) after a few trips through claiming races. Isabeau has shown a preference for turf, so the surface change is rather surprising. She has, however, done decently in allowance and claims when routing on dirt. I would be much more confident of her chances to do well if this race were on grass.

5

Shovel Connection

gonesurfin

31-1

Coming off two straight wins in allowance company at 14 and 16 furlongs, this 4yo Manshood filly might actually represent a semi-serious threat to X Gold. She’s very lightly raced with just 8 starts (and 3 wins) but given her recent dominating wins by more or more lengths, it’s no wonder Pye decided to jump his filly right out of allowances to the graded level. She’s a confirmed frontrunner who will give this race some pace.

(no silks)

6

Republican Fraud

bikeboy

23-1

Speaking of legitimate contenders, here’s another one. This 4yo Adjudicating filly ran a lousy race last out, but based on speed figures it looks like it’s a throwout. Two back she won a stakes at 2 miles by 4, although that was a small field. She has a nice 9 for 25 record, and that stakes win to her credit. She generally likes to hang out in second or third position, then try to wear down the frontrunner moving into the stretch.

(no silks)

7

Incredible Rip

tg1

12-1

This 4yo Gone West filly is another 2 mile specialist. In fact, 7 of her 8 starts this year have been at that distance. The lone exception was in the G1 California stakes week 1797, which saw Rip lose by over 10 (the race was won by X Gold). Rip’s last win was 3 back in a listed stake. She’s a deep closer who will probably try to out-stretchrun X Gold.

8

The Divorce

jarrod2

6-1

Can you say seconditis? This 4yo Unbridled’s Song filly has an impressive record of 13 top-3 finishes in 28 starts, but only one of those was a win. That’s right, she’s earned over $750k and is multiply graded-placed, but is still nw1x-eligible. She’s the only horse to have been less than 2 lengths way from beating X Gold this year (in the GI California stakes at 14, X Gold beat The Divorce by 1 3/4 lengths). The two horses actually have very similar running styles, although The Divorce tends to stay a bit closer to the pace. If anyone is to beat X Gold, this is probably the best candidate. She’s never seen this much distance, however, and is coming off a heartbreaker of a half-length loss in the 12-furlong GII Big Dessert Stakes.

9

Seeking The Statue

tiramisu

7-1

This 4yo Statue of Liberty filly won a listed stake at 12 nearly a year ago, but hasn’t seen stakes success since. She has picked up a couple of allowance wins at 11 and 13 furlongs, and most recently ran third in a pair of listed stakes at 11 and 12 furlongs. The average speeds of mid 80s to mid 90s are why she’s at such low odds relative to most of the field. STS has tried 2 miles once on good dirt, running third by about 11 lengths. The fast track can only help her (she’s much better on a fast track than off). A potential danger to X Gold, but only if STS has recovered from her short 3-week break. She normally gets 4-5 weeks between starts.

10

Isaba

palmisland

10-1

This 4yo Sadler’s Wells filly has had an interesting career. In her 31 starts, she has won 6 times, and has an additional 10 top-3 placings for nearly a quarter million in earnings. She’s a stakes winner at this distance, and won three in a row (including one stake) earlier this year, but despite some fairly fast speeds for her age and preferred distance she didn’t maker her graded debut until her last start. That race was certainly not among Isaba’s best, as she lost the 12 furlong GII Big Dessert by 14 lengths. Now that she’s getting a better distance (she seems to actually like going a long long ways) and she’s got a bit more experience at this class level, she could surprise. A minor placing at minimum is quite possible.

11

La Pata Daisy

usoz

6-1

She’s the number-2 mare in the turf long division, but despite her stellar record La Pata Daisy is something of an unknown element. It’s not a huge puzzler, as Sadler’s Wells offspring are know to appreciate a good dirt race in the sim, but is a bit of a shocker to see her take on X Gold in her first main track race. Still, this is one crafty trainer , and at the very least we already know that Daisy does appreciate the distance.

12

T Held Ransom

skyhigh

11-1

From the T empire, this 4yo Ransom Calling filly most recently found success 2 back in a 12 furlong allowance, and 4 back in a 13 furlong listed stake.
