This week we bring you a special event, the G3 Blonde And Freckled Handicap, a 7 furlong sprint on the turf course for 3yo fillies. We have a full field lined up, and there are some top names bringing their adoring fans to our venue, including last year’s Eclipse Champion Juvenile Turf Filly Super Gold. Let’s take a look at the runners.

On the rail at 14/1 is Hollow Hawk(GB) (Beat Hollow(GB) x Silver Hawk) owned by reminder. She is riding a three race win streak into this, all in listed stakes events. Sure, they were all small field events at small North American tracks, but she is not without graded experience, having run third in the G3 Si’ Senorita Special at a mile before embarking on her current streak. She will likely need to improve on her speed figure to win here (career high is 93), but her form is excellent, and Mizzi Russell(9%) fits her running style quite nicely.

In post two at 13/1 is Soaring Hero(Aus) (Danzero(Aus) x Mr. Prospector) owned by devil. She is ranked #13 in the sophomore fillies turf sprint division. She has won a total of six stakes races already in her career, with a top speed figure of 96 run in her last stakes win. She faced older horses and mares in her last two races and didn’t fare so well, but perhaps the move back into her own age group will spark a response. She performs best if she can get the lead right off, and A. Reed(19%), one of the top jockeys here, is more than capable when it comes to getting that done.

In post three at 34/1 is Ballycastle(Ire) (Giant’s Causeway(Ire) x Kris S.) owned by lbgong. She has shown seven furlongs to be her favourite distance, as all three of her wins have come at this distance. However, all three were also on an off track. Perhaps her connections were hoping for rain. With top speed figures of 89 and 87, she will need to show a large jump in maturity to be a factor. D. Doyle(9%) is a good jockey, though, and will certainly make sure she puts forth a good effort.

In post four at 11/1 is Blackeyed Peace (Peace Rules x Sadler’s Wells) owned by slipknot22. Hailing from the barn of multiple Group 1 winner and #1 ranked long turf colt Cortez(Ire), this young lady is no stranger to the winner’s circle. She has won four stakes races, and just missed by less than a length in the G3 Broadside Stakes in her 3yo debut. Throwing out her last race against her elders, she’s been running well, with a top speed of 97. Like Soaring Hero, she also performs best when she gets the lead, and she has up and coming jock M. Kirkpatrick(13%) in the saddle.

In post five at 5/1 is Silver Designer (Silver Ghost x Mill Reef) owned by usfldowns. She’s a bit of a newcomer on the scene, having only run eight times. She has never finished off the board, her worst finish being last time out when she ran third in the restricted Smackdown event. She has one stakes win, but it is her losses which are most impressive…a nose loss in the G3 Dallas Stud Command, and a 1/2 length loss in the G1 Ode To Barbaro, in which she finished ahead of six graded winners, including the #1 3yo dirt sprint filly. Her speed figure in that, a 107, is an enviable one which would win many a graded race on any given day. The lone knock against her is that she hasn’t been on turf since her debut, and didn’t even win that race. But, if she can transfer her form to the surface, E. Newcomb(12%) will be earning a nice paycheck today.

In post six at 18/1 is Miss Molli Wollie(Ire) (Persian Turban(Ire) x Perfect) owned by gezlodge. After winning an allowance to close out her 2yo campaign, she has run exclusively in stakes competition this year, up until her last start in a restricted allowance. She has won one stakes, and placed in two others. Her best speed figures of 90 and 92 have both come at today’s distance, so that’s definitely a plus. With several frontrunners in here already, her late kick may be an advantage. N. Schreiber(5%) may not be.

In post seven at 24/1 is Hall Of Justice (Empire Maker x Spinning World) owned by paydirt. This trainer struck paydirt when he claimed this Lenny-bred filly two races ago. Ok, so the win in that high claimer was only her second career win, but Empire Makers don’t just grow on trees. This one has never been tried at less than a mile, and has only been on turf once. A more conservative trainer might have tried her in a sprint allowance first, but with no sprints to go by, she’s a real wild card here. Perhaps the thing that concerns me the most, though, is that she also appears to want to run on the lead. It’s going to be awfully crowded up there. S. Jaeger(7%) gets the mount.

In post eight at 8/1 is La Santa Cruz (Aldebaran x Mr. Prospector) owned by santacruz3. In real life, pairing a son of Mr. Prospector with a daughter of Mr. Prospector is a bit too closely inbred for most people. In the sim, it’s an oft-repeated recipe for speed. It worked nicely in this case, as this bright chestnut is ranked #15 in the division. It took her awhile after breaking her maiden to find the winner’s circle again, but in between she hit the board in multiple stakes. Once she won as a 3yo though, she began to show her stuff, winning the G3 Oh No Somebody Won The 3-Man Jackpot and losing the G3 Intercontinental Mile by a nose. She’s run a top speed of 97, and has been flirting with a good race/bad race pattern recently. If that holds, she’s due for a good race today. C. Rice(12%) will be riding.

In post nine at 9/1 is Spirit Of America (A.P. Indy x Mr. Prospector) owned by harvey. She is a stakeswinner and has been running quite well recently, running a career high 98 speed figure last time out while finishing third in a listed stakes at today’s distance. She has only been off the board once in eight starts on turf. A.P. Indy offspring often display a tendency to mature a bit later, so there’s a very good chance that we have not yet seen the best that this girl has in her. A. Jewell(4%) will be her jockey.

The filly in post ten likely needs no introduction. Awarded an Eclipse as the Champion Juvenile Turf Filly, Super Gold (Seeking The Gold x Northern Dancer) has already earned herself a place in the history books, as well as in the hearts of many fans. She won seven of her first eight starts, including three G1’s and a G3. At that point, the only blemish on her record was a poor performance in the Breeder’s Bowl, a race that was probably slightly beyond her distance capabilities. The super20 stable’s star has improved her speed figures along the way since then, running a 100 recently in a listed stakes at today’s distance. Going off at odds of 8/1, she is currently ranked #3 in the turf sprint fillies’ division, and will have the services of top jockey Z. Kentucky(21%).

In post eleven at 11/1 is Maeve’s Causeway(Ire) (Giant’s Causeway(Ire) x Red Ransom) owned by galileo of the GR Simsters. A lightly-raced filly with only ten career starts, she is co-owner of the fastest turf speed figure in this race, with a 101 run in a stakes two races back at today’s distance. That was her first victory in a non-restricted stakes, but if she can produce that kind of figure again, it won’t be her last. W. Moxley(14%) is having a career year, and would love to get this Irish-bred filly’s photo taken after the race.

In post twelve at 7/1 is The Neutral Zone (Pine Bluff x Miswaki) owned by indigo1. She began her career on dirt, but showed her true colours when switched to turf to close out her 2yo season. She has a record of 5-4-0 in a dozen starts on turf, so she’s pretty consistently in the top two (75% of the time). She’s been running in the mid-90’s regularly so she wouldn’t need to improve by much, and with E C Doyle(10%) up, could have a really nice shot if she stays just behind the pace without getting too far back.

Our favourite is stuck clear outside in post thirteen. Falling Sky (A.P. Indy x Kingmambo) is ranked #20 in the 3yo fillies turf sprint division, and is owned by lenny271. She raced on dirt as a 2yo, winning her first two starts including a listed stakes. Switched to turf this season, she has improved by leaps and bounds, and has not failed to hit the board in any of her eight starts. She has won three listed stakes and hit the board in two G3 events, both at today’s distance. She’s run a 101 and two 100’s, the fastest speed figure on turf of today’s runners and the only one to record three 100+ figures. She is going off at 9/2 and has the able M. Tippett(11%) in the leathers.

Rounding out the field at 13/1 is Paradise (Gone West x Storm Cat) owned by cooldude. This royally-bred filly has won half of her starts on turf, including six listed stakes. Her top speed figure is a 95, earned two races back in a listed stakes in which she finished second. Four of her stakes wins, as well as her best speed figure, were all earned at today’s distance. She certainly has the pedigree and class, and with A. Jones(13%) on top, the main concern here is overcoming the outside post.

That is our field. We have some real exciting fillies here today, some that are well known, and some that aren’t. Will one of the graded winners add to her resume, or will we have a new graded winner to crown at the finish line? With so many horses wanting to run up front, I see a filly with tactical speed or one with a late kick edging out the pure speed horses, unless one filly manages to grab a clear lead, which isn’t likely. Good luck to all the runners, and may they all come home sound.

[2

post-2811","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-previews
["GET
