Thanks for joining us at the Pastures of Green here in Vermont, for a wonderful and truly fun series. We are back for the seventh race in the ten race OLD MAN OF THE MOUNTAIN RACE SERIES. Rasputin won the last race for his second in a row and passed Eminent Minstrel for the series lead. They are both out of the series until our host Meat Loaf Loop can win another. There are several other horses with points in the series running today. We have lots of new oldsters participating though and a couple are up there in age. There is always an interesting story or two with a group this old too. It should be fun and interesting as always so let\u2019s take a look:<\/p>\n

He more or less sits back and sits in about the middle of the pack and forgets what he is supposed to do at the end. I guess that\u2019s what happens at this age…you tend to forget everything. Hopefully, he will remember to show up on Saturday as he is the leader to the post and that could really mess things up!\t\t\t\t\t

    This 11 year old took time off from the series to run in a MAIDEN RACE! That\u2019s right folks an eleven year old virgin. Go ahead and look that one up in the record books. He finished with a flying fourth place in that race but is against a little tougher competition here. I really recommend that owner DarkFaerie bids an 11 year and older Maiden race to get this guy a win before he retires. That would only be fair. After all, he can take that huge $4,000 that his horse has won in eleven years and bid the race! \t\t\t\t\t

    A second time starter in this Senior Citizen classic series, the 10 year old didn\u2019t fare too well last time almost matching his age in the place finish. The old Admiral promises not to go down with the ship though and will go Full Speed Ahead in this race to get on Top of the Wave of horses. Sorry but that\u2019s about all of the sea-faring clich\u00e9s I\u2019ve got today!<\/p>\n

    Now here is an interesting story! Buff Dance who goes off at 72\/1 with C Wolff on board races for the very last time in his long and storied career. This is to be his 100th career race, and even though the conditions are a bit over his head and not to his preference owner Mets69 wants him to go out in style. The 9 year old will be bred over after this race. His last few races have been run in starters to make sure Mets69 didn’t lose him before he could get to that honored 100 race plateau. Hats off to this grand old guy!<\/p>\n

    Here is another guy that is \u201cShooting His Age\u201d. His past two races this 10 year old has finished 10th in the series. There are all kinds of sub plots in this series: who finishes last, who shoots their age, who can play the game and stay active and still get points. That\u2019s what makes it interesting. HIS TRAPS just happens to be an Age Shooter. As Dr. Phil, who is another geezer, would say, \u201cHow\u2019s that working out for you?\u201d. Pretty good it seems!<\/p>\n

    Here is one of those wise old guys that you think is just sitting around but is crazy like a fox. He has only been in three races in the series but has jumped up into third place by finishing in the top three but not winning enough to get disqualified from the series. He\u2019s running out of time though and like the rest of his cronies here, he sure ain\u2019t getting\u2019 no younger! He needs another couple of high finishes and cap it off with a win in the 10th and final race and he could take home the Old Decrepit Trophy. Stay Tuned!<\/p>\n

    AH, once again my favorite entry in this series, he has run in all the races so far and has never finished higher than 11th. He has tried so hard to capture the elusive LAST place spot in this series but someone always seems to beat him out, if that is the correct wording. If there were points for last place, he would be moving right up the charts with a bullet though. Once again at 99\/1 he is certainly in the hunt but has to worry about that 11 year old Maiden and that retiring horse running his Century Race. Could be interesting.<\/p>\n

Contender is so overdue for a big race that this month’s Old Man On The Mountain race is a foregone conclusion. He will run Meatloaf Loop down in the stretch and cut through him and the rest of the field like a chain saw through…..well….meatloaf. This old sot hasn’t seen the winner’s circle in 13 races, but this Saturday will be his big day to shine in Vermont.\u201d Now can he back it up. We will see! <\/p>\n

    After winning the second leg of this series, our illustrious host seemeds to be content to sit back and watch from the rocking chair but he showed new vigor last time out with a fourth place finish just out of the points. Trainer Sunnybank is rumored to have imported some very powerful Geritol based feed from Arizona also from the racetrack program at the University. That might be just the ticket to get him back in the points picture. Let the games begin!<\/p>\n

    One of the favorites, this guy finally was able to move inside from the far outside post and finished with his second consecutive third place finish in the series. He needs to park his walker and get on the stick as he is running out of time to make a splash in this geriatric series. A couple of seconds and a late win would do the trick but he really needs to put some jive in the old step.

    The second half of our \u201cBrother\u201d act, this guy is always in the mix but he\u2019s like the old guy that always seems to get late to the buffet and miss out on the good stuff. He is always around the leaders but has only garnered points one time. He needs to remember back in the days when he was a youngster and had that finishing kick. That would get him into the points mixture.<\/p>\n

    With three different owners and a claim in the past three races this old guy may have a hard time figuring out who is saddling him. He can still run though even after half a century mark of races and double figure wins. He took off the entire year of 2004, perhaps to travel the world or chase fillies. That should give him a little extra oomph at the end. A welcome addition to the series.<\/p>\n

    Wait a minute, this Senior Citizen was running a Stakes Race last time out and in the Equinics earlier this year. Isn\u2019t there a rule about that somewhere? Perhaps not and he still began his career back when there were dinosaur races. He looks like the one to beat but it is pretty tough for these oldsters to be parked way out in the Handicap Lot of the outside post. A few extra yards of running can make a big difference with these guys. Can the Prince be King?<\/p>\n

    Paz Picks = 14-6-11-8-9<\/strong>
    In this series it is almost as important to pick the last place as the first. It should be one whale of a race for last place between CHARISMATIC DANCE <\/b> and THEIR FIGHT <\/b>. It\u2019s hard to pick against the 11 year old maiden in that race. We have a couple of tough looking newcomers to this party with some interesting stories along with some of the series vets. There is more experience in this race than the entire sum of all the other races on the card. I always like to mention our host, MEAT LOAF LOOP <\/b> and I have him picked for fifth as he always puts forth a good effort and looks like he may be back on the ball. Speaking of contending, I like A. CONTENDER <\/b> to try and back up his fighting words but have a fourth place finish. It looks like BURG GROOVING <\/b> should be able to move his walker up into third place and I like PRINCE JERRY <\/b> and DEPUTY WOOD <\/b> to battle it out for the win. In a squeaker, I think PRINCE JERRY <\/b> should be good enough to beat these retirement home horse!<\/p>\n
