A most interesting group of little ladies take centre stage at Queensland this week for The PROFITABLE COLONY Stakes. With no recognised front runner in the race, it promises to be a battle of tactics as all fillies venture to the untried distance of 1400m. Let’s take a look at the contenders.<\/p>\n
DAN’S LEOPARD CAT(IRE) 7\/5 (Jacklad) This striking dark grey daugther of El Prado finally realised her potential last start when she finished over the top of them at her home track here last start. Terry Cox has been sacked in favour of the experienced jock, Lou Lang so expect her to be super competitive in this.<\/p>\n
REGATTA(AUS) 2\/1 (simon1966) This filly out of Aussie freshman sire Elvstroem could not have been more impressive in week 2923 when she “donkey licked” a handy field, running away over 1300m and scoring a very good 74SP in the process. She deserves her chance here and the extra 100m wont pose any problems. Could be a super star in the making.<\/p>\n
FLYING MARG(AUS) 7\/2 (dowelly2) Grade 3 winning daughter of Flying Spur who has done everything asked of her in her 5 starts. Is a winner at this track and last start finished 3rd here when beaten by her classy stable mate in the Barrier Reef Junior Dash. Possesses a devastating final sprint so watch for her late.<\/p>\n
JAPANS OTHER HOPE(JPN) 8\/1 (lodog20) This girl from Devine Light has a great record here with 2 wins and a 2nd from her 3 starts at the track. This is easily her hardest test to date so would need to improve a notch to beat some of these classy fillies. Each way chance.<\/p>\n
BT’S LEMONDROP 7\/2 (bigted11) This Lemon Drop Kid filly turned things around after a failure on debut on dirt to record 3 straight wins on turf. All 3 wins have been most impressive and while she generally races just off the pace, the lack of speed in this race should enable her to sit comfortably in front and prove hard to catch. This is her first appearance in stakes company but she looks well and truly up to it. Big Show.<\/p>\n
Although only 5 fillies face the starter here, it promises to be a most interesting race. I expect BT’S LEMONDROP to fly the gates and take up the running with REGATTA and JAPAN’S OTHER HOPE taking a sit. This leaves FLYING MARG and DAN’S LEOPARD CAT at the rear waiting for their opportunity late in the stretch.
