Looking through the weekly auctions you will find a large number of sparingly raced horses that were discarded because they showed no potential in their first couple of starts. While the bigger more established stables can afford to do this, it gives the new players to the game an opportunity to quickly get some good results and quickly build up their breeding points and money.

Visiting the auctions will lead you to a large selection of horses of all ages that have been sparingly raced. By inspecting their past performances you can identify horses which may not been given the opportunity to show their best. This occurs through the lack of patience of the previous stable to experiment or fully identify potential because of incorrect distance, surface and class of race selections. Add this to the poor breeding and you have potential winner on your hand — I grant you that you’re unlikely to get a Stakes winner from the concept but it can get your stable moving in the right direction.

Combine both poor breeding with poor race performance and you will find a whole new world of CPU restricted races at your fingertips. CPU restrictions vary over a range of values and can start as low as a CPU of 15. For an example I will use a horse which has been able to get some good results racing in races of a CPU restriction of 20 or less.

Way Wild was four year old mare allocated to the stable on registering with the unflattering record of 4 minor placing from 22 starts and prize money totalling $2,614. The initial thought was to quickly build up the 20 starts necessary to allow her to be auctioned off. However, she entered the stable with a CPU of 10 and (after studying her previous races) was thrown into a MSW solely due to the reason that the race only had four starters. Surprisingly she won this race and her CPU raised to 12.

After a flop in her following race, Way Wild was entered into a CPU 15 restricted race. Although only finishing second, she showed she was capable of being competitive. Since being allocated the stable has started her 14 times and she has only once not collected prize money. More impressively is her figures in CPU restricted race: Way Wild has raced 9 times in races with a CPU restriction of 20 or less and has the impressive figures of 3 wins, 4 seconds and 1 third, the only time out of a place was over a distance that was too short for her to produce her best. Way Wild has now added another $130,720 to her prize money and collected 181 breeding points for her stable. Amazingly this reject is now ranked the 175th best horse in the Long Dirt category.

CPU restricted races are held at all tracks, but Florida seems to specialise in races specifically for horses with a CPU of 15 or less. Most CPU 15 restricted races in Florida are worth $52,300 and sadly only draw a field of four horses. However, what it does do is give stables a reason to continue racing the poorly bred and underperformed horses.

[6

post-2766","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-new-user-info
["GET
