This race has seen an averaged speed rating of 118. Tempest will be attempting to win its third straight Graded Stakes race but will face 13 very determined horses that plan on ruining the Tempest party. Past champions of this race include the great 3-time winner of this race Mississippi Gulch, Father Phil, and Birchwood Medway. As many of you might know, Mississippi Gulch won 13 graded stakes races, including two Grade I races, in its career earning over $3.5M. The track will be rated good for tomorrow, which makes it more interesting for some of the betting favorites who have not shown a great interest for running on good tracks.

Sensationalize (A.P. Indy x Sadler’s Wells) is bred out two of the finest sires in the game today. The horse plans to race at the back of the pack in hopes catching front runners at the wire. This horse had some difficulty in the Graded Stakes races until three races back when it won the Grade I Oaktree Handicap posting a 112 speed rating. Its hit board six of its eight races at this distance including Oaktree, but has two subpar performances leading up to today’s race. Its average speed rating of 107 is tied for one of the best and this 16th ranked dirt classic horse just might be able to rebound. It has one of the best jockeys on board and winning its second graded stakes race Saturday is not out of the question.

Union Bay (Acceptable x Runaway Groom) has an interesting Blushing Groom nick at the DS and DDS. This horse has had trouble winning stakes races graded or listed going 1 for 20. It did win a listed stakes four races back and finished 3rd in a graded stakes three races back. This 6YO horse has had success, at 1 1/8th winning, the Mr. Victory stakes and finish second and third in its 5 attempts at the distance. This horse plans to join a few others at the back of field and has an average speed rating of 102 giving it a decent shot at 11-1.

Peyresurd (Sadler’s Wells x Broad Brush) is the most highly graded sired horses in this race. It has competed in the 2005 Bluegrass Derby and New Yorker as a 3YO. It’s done very well in the listed stakes winning four of its seven races. It’s had difficulty in the Graded Stakes winning only one in 10 trips and that was as a 3YO in the Grade II Fedirico Stakes. This is a very streaky horse. As a 3YO O/T sansebas gave this horse a seven break and after two turf races this horse exploded for three wins, a second and a third. Once again it’s taken a seven week break but has yet to return to its natural form of triple digit races. It did not win its last race, which was an allowance that also was on a good track. It does have two wins on off tracks, so this is a tough horse to call and its 18-1.

Red Hot Cat (Silver Deputy x Tabasco Cat) is a nicely bred horse by O/T mirasol who likes to run right in the middle or even off the pace. Its one of the top 50 classic dirt horses that has three graded stakes races including last year’s Grade III Perfectionistic Handicap and the Grade III Saints Handicap. It has struggled this year except for its second in the Grade I Billy and Jimmy Stakes, at 7 furlongs, earning a 108 speed rating. I’m not certain if those two races were not just preps for this race, because triple digits are expected from this 5YO based on its two wins in seven races at this distance. This is an interesting horse ranked 41st in the sprints and 42nd in the classics.

Tempest (A.P. Indy x Storm Cat) is one of the co-favorites and very highly graded sired horses in the race. This 4YO colt is ranked 13th in the dirt classics. This four time graded stakes winner is coming into the race off of back to back wins in the Grade III Smart School Cap and Grade II Statewide Pinhead Guild Stakes both at 1 1/8. This horse has been deadly at this distance coming in first or second in five of its seven tries and has earned nearly a million dollars for O/T oscar in just 21 races. Expect this horse race to at the back with, looks most of the field, and make its charge in the stretch. Its average speed rating is a 107, but its only attempt on a good track resulted in a disappointing performance as a 3YO. One last thing the jockey is not one of the best in Oklahoma.

Pony Express (Gone West x Phone Trick) has had weird life as a horse in its 52 starts. It has twice been tried on the turf for extended periods of time winning three races. It started on the dirt, then turf, then dirt, then turf and now has been switched back to dirt for the last eight races. Since the latest switch this late developing horse, for O/T ontarget2, has all of a sudden found its niche finishing first, second or third 5 times posting triple digits in six of those races. This 6YO has finished third in both attempts at the Graded level including its last race 5 weeks ago. This horse should be well rested and ready to make a charge from the back of the field, but its jockey is not that good.

Best of the Sun (Best of the Bests x Honor Grades) is one of the few front runners in this race. In its last race, three weeks ago, it wired in the 1 1/16 Grade III Perfectionistic Hanicap earning a 109 rating. Like a lot of horses, it started its career as a turf horse but the switch to dirt has paid big dividends for O/T sunline. It has 4 wins in eleven listed stakes, and one win in six attempts at the graded level. The big problem for this horse is that it does not like this distance going 0 for 3, and it faded noticeably in its victory three weeks ago. This co-favorite doesn’t have a lot of competition for the lead, but I’m not happy with 7% winning jockey on board. It all depends on how big a duel it faces with the other front runners in the race.

Slither (Deputy Minster x Gone West) is another beautifully bred horse in this race that is expected race just off the pace hoping for the front runners to tire. This is a tough horse to grade, because it is the 33rd ranked horse in the Dirt Long division. O/T peeps6 has seen this horse win 3 of its 8 listed stakes, mostly owner restricted, and one of its eleven attempts in the graded stakes. At a 1 1/8 it has raced six times winning only once, the 2005 Grade II Statewide Pinhead Stakes, and finishing third in another. In its last four races it gone over 1 1/2 and now it is being drop down in distance in hopes rebounding its declining speed ratings.

Paleskin (Cherokee Run x Majestic Light) has not had great success in the listed stakes (0-4) or the graded stakes (0-5), but O/T james22 is a very patient. It took this horse eleven races to break its maiden and then was run seven more times in allowance before it was decided to move into the stakes competition. This 5YO is ranked 61st in dirt classics, making it one of the higher ranked horses running today. This O/T loves to strike while the fire is hot based on the fact that it run just two ago posting a 103. In its past once this horse post triple digit figure, run it back quickly and see the speed rating increase. This has been a good philosophy for this horse, the only problem it usually will need a break afterwards. The question is, will it bounce or continue to increase and post those triple digit numbers it did last year.

King’s Robbery (King of Kings x Robellino) is one of those horses you just love to see in graded stakes races at least for me. It took this horse 12 races to break its maiden and raced fourteen times in allowances and one $10K claimer (where was I?). This another tough horse to judge due to the fact that all of its listed and graded stakes races are at 11 furlongs or longer and this 5YO is ranked 7th in the Dirt Long division. It looks like O/T kj will have this horse race right off the leaders and hope its endurance will allow it to steal the victory at 24-1 odds. This longshot is the winner of the Grade I Edward Garrison, but that was at 1 1/2 and guess what its odds were 20-1 and its jockey has won 10% of its race this year.

Battle the Storm (Battle Cry x Storm Boot) will make only its second attempt 9 furlongs or longer. It’s been unlucky in its stakes races finishing second three times in seven listed stakes and was zero for two in the graded races as a 2YO. It does seem this horse needs more distance and today it gets that needed distance. Though its last two wins were in restricted allowances; which was followed up with a bounce in its next race. This horse has rested for four weeks and loves the off track winning two of its three races and finishing second in the other posting a 105 on a good track.

Cader Ydris (Giant’s Causeway x A.P. Indy) is a big time sired horse that has won four of its ten graded stakes races earning $1.7M for O/T oldgraymar, but those four wins were as a 2YO and 3YO. At this distance, this front runner has one victory in five attempts, but five weeks ago it finished third earning a 106. It seems, to this writer, that the O/T has changed its running style, no longer is it going for the lead, but rather sitting just off the leaders. This conserving of its energy has resulted in an average speed rating of 105-106 in three of its last four races. This winner of its first seven of its eight races has had trouble lately in the Graded Stakes, but this change in style might benefit this horse the most in this race.

Texas Panhandel (Storm Boot x Defensive Play) started its career with four wins and 3 seconds in its first eight races. It’s only had 18 races with half of those being in the stakes competition. This horse has been unlucky at the stakes level with no wins in 8 listed stakes and one grade stakes race. It also has only a third place finish in three races at this distance, yet this 8-1 choice has an average speed rating of 102-103 and has a decent jockey on board for Saturday. Its best running style seems to be when it sits right in the middle of the pack and then charges forward in the stretch.

Certifably Crazy (Capote x Rainbow Quest) has had 3 different O/T. First O/T ran it in Dirt and Turf sprints before giving it up in the auction. The second O/T raced in dirt sprints before losing it to current O/T ashford in a $25K claimer. Since taking over as owner, this horse has responded very well with two wins, and second in six attempts. Now some of you will ignore this 9-1 horse because it has only attempted 2 listed stakes and one graded stakes race. Also it will be attempting 9 furlongs for the first time, but I warn you that by ignoring a horse that has won two races out of four on an off track is dangerous. The reason I say that here, is yep I discounted at first. After reflection I believe this O/T is searching for the right distance and today it might just have found it. This closer has a speed rating of 106, but guess what the jockey has a 2% win rate (ouch).

At the Wire: Most of the horses in the race are hoping that Best of the Sun and Cader Ydris tire out in the stretch. It is hard to ignore Tempest based on its current win streak and Certifably Crazy is an improving horse looking for accreditation. This race should be down to the wire with the winner barely winning. I expect a great race, but I believe Sensationalize with one of the top jockeys on board will win this race at the wire. One thing before you bet, lately I’ve had the luck of Lee Corso in picking races.

Prediction: 1 – 14 – 5

Send comments or suggestions to Euro321@aol.com
Good luck Saturday to all of you.

[2

post-2648","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-previews
["GET
