It’s kind of important. Much in the way that a Bugatti Veyron is “kind of fast”.

Many millions of Sim dollars will be distributed, and in many cases Eclipse Awards could very well be clinched… Or muddled further.

The stakes record for the 9-furlong BB Distaff is 1:46.40, a 118 speed for Swift Kick at New York way back in 2005. The track record for California is 1:46.42, which got a 119 for Interes Personal in 2013.

Enough unneccessary background… Let’s get to the race already! This particular article covers the Grade 1, two-million-dollar Breeders’ Bowl Distaff, a championship race for female runners aged 3 and up. With two divisions (3yo female routers and older female routers) represented, the lowest-ranked femme in this field is ranked #10 in her division of the Sim; a truly spectacular field! $1.2 million awaits the one that gets to pose in the winner’s circle.

SWANSEA TRIUMPH, third in this race last year, returns for another shot and the 5yo daughter of Montjeu looks better than ever after consecutive wins in the Grade 1 Go For The Gold Stakes and the Grade 1 Bra Snap Stakes; this earns status as the 5/1 favorite. The consistent swanseared trainee has only missed the tote board once, but it was in a biggie, the Grade 1 Equinics Sim-Wise Contests race. If she can avoid a letdown like that one, she should be lying in wait just off the leaders and gunning it down the lane.

SILVER SHOT K is the top-ranked runner by mid-level Kentucky sire Trappe Shot, but don’t laugh at those bloodlines, ya might miss this 3yo filly running by! The lordbear3 trainee scorched the track to the tune of a 118 speed rating while running away by five lengths in the Grade 3 Northern Oaks; a repeat of that effort in her first try vs. older might pull off the upset. Easier said than done, of course, but the oddsmakers respect her at 8/1.

A 5yo son of Redoute’s Choice by a graded-stakes-place Kingmambo sim mare, WISTER ROAD was bred for turf racing, but given2 quickly figured out that dirt was definitely the place she wanted to be. She has piled up a nice bunch of stakes trophies, including a championship in this very race last year and a 2013 Eclipse Award for Top Older Dirt Mare. A carefully-planned schedule has helped the given2 trainee gather up some more hardware in 2014, including the Grade 1 Equinics “Sim Historians” race. Likes to go wire-to-wire, but has shown that she can win from just off-the-pace also. She is a co-2nd choice in the wagering, going off at 6/1.

SETOV OPERA has a turf-heavy pedigree, but the Kitten’s Joy filly jumped forward quite a bit when tried on the dirt and actully has a near-perfect 5-for-6 dirt record to go along with possibly the steepest recent-improvement curve in the field. Well, that’s one side of the story; the other way to say this is that this filly is moving forward by leaps and bounds on ANY surface! Her graded-stakes debut was the Grade 2 Italian Oaks in July, and she won impressively. After a midpack finish in her next turf start, she was entered in her first main-track graded-stakes, the Grade 1 Birmingham Stakes. She won that in flashy style. Then she tried older company for the first time, males included… She ran a strong 2nd, closing rapidly down the lane. Now she tries to get her very-late-closer style to adapt to a shorter race. The trainer is temp3 of the wildly successful Dixiedotco group, so doubters beware… The rapidly-improving filly gets juicy 13/1 odds.

OUR FAVORITE PLACE is a 4yo Monsun filly carrying the colors of the ticketman4 stable. While she is ranked #4 for Older dirt females, that rank will fall soon unless she can manage a form turnaround. She was hotter than a pistol last winter when she took trophies and the Grade 3 Exit Stage Left and the Grade 1 Orange Blossom, but has been winless in five tries since while hitting the tote board only once. Looking for a big spin on the “wayback machine”, she goes off at 14/1.

FIRST DEGREE BERN returns to dirt racing after a pair of tries on turf, and goes off at 17/1. The 3yo Bernardini fared well in those tries, getting a minor-stakes win and a 4th in the Grade 1 Liz Taylor Stakes, but trainer cajunbeat has decided to shelve the turf experiment for now and see if his Grade 1 Bluegrass Oaks champ can regain that luster that was tarnished by a bad loss against open company in the Grade 1 New Yorker. She took a 2-month rest after that loss, and came back a little flat in the Grade 1 Birmingham Stakes. Maybe the rest followed by the turf races will have her cranked for this run…

SHADOWFALL hadn’t even been seen at a racetrack at this time last year, but the 3yo Smarty Jones filly has quickly made a name for herself with a pair of Grade 1 wins, the Players Club International Oaks and the Great Dane at 14 furlongs against older last time out. Trainer fairhaven6 shortens her up considerably here; a lot to ask of this 16/1 shot, but this filly is on a high improving curve and could be a danger.

DERBYFEVERDOTCOM has captured the hearts and imaginations of Sim-racing fans everywhere with her incredible Zenyatta-like stretch runs, but they haven’t occurred every time… But the last two have been breathtaking, and the last win, the Grade 1 Three Smokestacks Stakes, was The 3yo Bernardini filly’s debut vs. older. Might make things interesting on her best day, but she has yet to break 110 on the speed gun and gets 19/1 odds. A bit of a moonshot (amazing to say this about a #2-ranked horse!) by trainer winningday, but certainly bigger upsets have happened.

EDGEFIELD SHOW is a 4yo filly by Dalakhani who has a Grade 1 victory at this very track back in July, the Very Vane Stakes. This was the only Grade 1 on her dance card, and she also won her only Grade 2, the Canada Stakes. That triumph was also at this track… Her Grade 3 tries haven’t been so great, but they also weren’t at California. I’m gonna go wayy out on a limb and say this scorehobby trainee loves this track… At 14/1… Comes into this off an easy allowance score.

SUPAH QUALITY is a Super Saver filly who has made a huge name for herself in just 11 career starts. She owns trophies for the Grade 1 Superfilly Handicap and the Grade 1 Steadhemp Handicap and also has a Grade 3 win and a Grade 1 3rd. From the barn of scorehobby2, she is a major danger on the front end, but can she hold on for the nine furlongs against top company? The oddsmakers seem to think it’s a possibility, making her the 7/1 fourth choice.

KUKAA SALAMA stepped up her game in a big way when met with the challenge of facing older in her last two starts, a runaway win in the Grade 3 Rose Garden Handicap followed by a terrific try in the Grade 1 Great Dame where she narrowly missed to EQUINE ROYALTY after hitting the front at the top of the lane. The 3yo Street Cry filly by a stakes-winning A.P. Indy sim-mare, trained by platypuscz, would be no surpise on the podium at 10/1.

BERNSEEKER is a 4yo Bernardini filly by a stakes-winning Seeking The Gold sim-mare who has won two of three since stepping up into the rarefied atmosphere of graded-stakes, winng a [air of Grade 2’s, the First State Distaff and the Cadet Fillies Classic. Those two wins sandwich a strong 2nd in the Grade 1 Personal Sign stakes. The biggray trainee is consistent, fast and tough; should be right there, stalking the leaders. Her last four races have been at 10 furlongs, so her already potent finishing power may be aided by the shorter distance here and she’s a co-2nd choice at 6/1… Of course, it could make her finish be a little tardy, too.

EQUINE QUALITY has a turf sire, Frankel, but the powerful dirt-loving female side (out of a million-dollar Grade 1 champ dirt mare by Kingmambo who has proven to be one of the most-productive mares in the Sim’s history) has had at least as much influence; this girl can win big on just about any surface you can name! It so happens her last four tries have all been on the dirt, and she’s picked up three graded-stakes trophies and a load of cash. Wins include the Grade 1 Great Dame and the Grade 1 Sister Hen. The futurestar trainee appears well-equipped for the task and certainly has a chance to pay off those handsome 14/1 odds.

LOST GIRL is a 3yo Street Cry filly, ranked #9 in her division despite only two wins in the last thirteen months. Why so high, you ask? Well, the wins are from the 2013 Grade 1 Walnut Tree Stakes and the Grade 3 Jersey Oaks, for starters… Add in four graded-stakes 2nd’s in the same time period. This super12 trainee has taken on a lot of tough assignments and generally done quite well. She ran a dissappointing 6th last out, contributing to the 15/1 price.

Well, when you have a 14-horse field and the longest price on the board is less than 20/1, you have to know this one is wide-open… But I’ll stick my neck out there and venture a guess… I’ll take EDGEFIELD SHOW to win this… SWANSEA TRIUMPH 2nd… WISTER ROAD 3rd.

Or maybe I should just go to the new 10-cent exacta and hit “Box All”. 🙂

Anyone’s race… Good luck all!

EQUINE ROYALTY (outside) has KUKAA SALAMA in her sights in the Grade 1 Great Dame Just in case there is

[2

post-26003","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-previews
["GET
