Afull field of fourteen take to the track, with about a third of the field in with a chance. This may be a good betting race, some of the favoured runners look too short on the morning line, whilst some of the loger priced runners are seriously good value.

BAG O TRICKS (DEVIL’S BAG x STORM CAT x PHONE TRICK)
Very interesting runner and overpriced at 11/1. Has shown steady improvemt this year culminating in his last run when winning the prep race for this, the Grade II Kentucky Breeders Bowl Sprint at this track over todays trip. He ran a sparkling 111sp that day and generally likes to sit mid pack before delivering his challenge in the last furlong or so. Very dangerous today, he could easily make the top three or better.

ROYAL SOVEREIGN (TOUCH GOLD x EASY GOER x NIJINSKY II)
Finished third in a Grade I over todays trip latest but his sp was some way below BAG O TRICKS and he actually looks as though he might want 8f or more now. Closes from way off the pace and will be closing late, but i think the line will be coming too quick today. Outside shot at a top five.

CALL THE SHOTS (LION CAVERN x DEPUTY COMMANDER x MEADOWLAKE)
Started the year in Graded races, but has to come all the way down to an allowance latest to record his only recent win. That will boost his confidence but on the balance of this years form it’s hard to see him reaching a place today.

SKANONYMOUS (YONAGUSKA x DEPUTY MINISTER x HALO)
The third highest ranked horse in the field today at number 12, he has won a Grade II two starts back at todays trip and it looks his best distance. Won that with a 109 and ran the same figure when third in a Grade III over 6f latest. Definite top five runner and should reach the top three, he runs in a similar style to BAG O TRICKS, so it may come down to who gets the first run and this fella has the better jockey.

DIXIE GLOW (DIXIE UNION x TWINING x GLOW)
His best run of the season so far was a closing fourth in a Grade II two runs back, suggesting he may want a little further, pehaps a mile. He has been a bit up and down the rest of the year and on balance his form doesn’t look godd enough.

CROWN ME KING (HOLD THAT TIGER x SEEKING THE GOLD x DYNAFORMER)
Has spent most of the season running distances from 5-7.5f and kept getting caught on the line to finsh second. Suggests he needs to stretch out more, perhaps up to 9f, bourne out by his last run when he recorded his best sp of 110 again finishing second in a Grade III. Expect him to take the lead but not have the speed to cope with the fast finishers today. Possible top three finish.

TASSIE DEVIL (STORM CAT x DEVIL HIS DUE x VAGUELY NOBLE)
Had some really nice runs earlier in the year, in stakes and allowance company, including posting a 112 sp over todays trip. His last two runs have been ordinary at best though and for that reason he is opposed today.

ROLL TIDE ROLL (CARSON CITY x STORM CAT x SECRETARIAT)
This is his first recent try beyond 6.5f, but on balance he looks to have been best at around 5f. He has won recently at 6f but that was an allowance and i can’t see him getting close today.

FINAL THOUGHTS (WILD AGAIN x MR. PROSPECTOR x DANZIG)
No recent wins, in mostly Graded raves but every run has produced an sp of over 100. The profile seems to suggest that he isn’t quite good enough at this level, his best recent run being ina stakes race over 6.5f. This looks to be his trip but i think he wants to drop a level, so not today for me.

GALLOP FRITZ (VICTORY GALLOP x SEATTLE SLEW x SECRETARIAT)
Has been running well in stakes races but looks to be crying out for a step up in trip. His best recent run was over 7.5f in an allowance and he’s not up to this Grade- at this distance. Stepped up to 8-9f may be a different story. Not today.

EXCUSES (SPINNING WORLD x SEEKING THE GOLD x BRIARTIC)
Another who looks to want further and who’s best races have been in allowance company. Crying out for 8f plus, he may be a stakes or graded runner but not at 7f, they will be finishing too fast today.

SADLER’S GONE WEST (SADLER’S WELLS x GONE WEST x SEATTLE SLEW)
There are one or two Saddler’s Wells sprinters out there but he isn’t one of them. Ran poorly in his only recent try at this trip latest and is surely looking for 10f plus not a sprint. Will not have the speed for this.

PULLING STRINGS (BESTYOUCANBE x GONE WEST x STORM CAT)
The one to beat today, has run well over 6f the last twice, a distance just a little short of his best and won the Grade I Bill Hartack at the Equinics over 6.5f with an sp of 115. Will sit at the front or just off and should handle the extra half a furlong no problem. Will take some beating today.

SULPHUR(IRE) (GIANT’S CAUSEWAY (IRE) x FORTY NINER x LYPHARD)
Looks to be a danger based on two recent stakes wins and a fast closing fourth over 6f latest. Will be eating up the ground late and if he’s still improving as he seems to be , he can get a top three slot.

Very interesting race, with a lot who might not win but are capable of a place. PULLING STRINGS will sit at or near the front and can hold off the late chareg of SULPHUR with BAG O TRICKS easing through for third.

[2

post-2401","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-previews
["GET
