ILLINOIS <\/B>The JEALOUS ROMEO Challenge Stakes looks to be a wide open affair. We’ve got a very viable 5\/1 longshot, an extremely well bred unknown variable, and the highest ranked horse in the division starts as the longest shot on the board. The field of 7 will go for their share of the $65,000 purse over 9 furlongs on the firm turf course.<\/P>

PP1 TAKE SHELTER 9\/2 <\/B>An interesting choice in placement here by trainer timmn<\/I>. Makes his stakes and turf debut. Point Given colt broke his maiden routing on the dirt in his debut before not have enough ground to catch the leader sprinting second time out. Sire is not known for throwing turf runners. Has Storm Cat for DS and Roberto for his DDS so the potential for a fondness for the green stuff is definitely there. Really makes for an interesting 2nd choice in the betting but I think I’ll put my money elsewhere.<\/P>

PP2 RUBRUM OBSCURUM 6\/1 <\/B>Woodman colt out of an Irish River(FR) mare starts for the super18<\/I> branch of the super stables empire. Big 3 length win over a short allowance field last time out, though he only had to post a SP of 77 to do it. That was well short of his career best SP of 913 races back. He’s won 4 of his 11 starts and likes to come from just off the pace. With a good chance of a speed duel developing, he could be dangerous. Tempting play at 2nd longest odds on the board, especially with 18% jock astride.<\/P>

PP3 KIRBY IS FAST 9\/5 <\/B>Fast Play colt goes to the post as the favorite for trainer kirby66<\/I>. Has 3 turf starts, with 2 wins and a 2nd, all in stakes. This will be his first try routing on the turf but pedigree suggests the added distance shouldn’t be a problem though he has tended to fade late in his 3 dirt routes. Closer will be well back early and also looks to benefit from the hot pace. Has the highest SP of the field at 93 2 races back when he drew away to win a stakes in impressive fashion.<\/P>

PP4 SAM’S AROMA 7\/1 <\/B>Who’s Sam and what does he smell like? 1 of this Burning Roma’s colt’s win came 5 back in an owner restricted stakes. 3 back he had a narrow miss in a Gr 3 when he failed to get up by only 1\/4 length, settling for 3rd for trainer deelynette<\/I>. Apparently, that effort took a lot out of him as he hasn’t shown near that form in his last 2. He’s had 5 weeks to get ready for this one and looks to part of the pace picture if his for returns.<\/P>

PP5 EL GRAN APE 7\/1 <\/B>Lammtarra colt won a turf allowance at this distance last time out, posting a SP of 80 while winning by 2 1\/4 lengths. Either trainer ap<\/I> had him schooled well or no one really challenged him for the lead. We should find out here as he will definitely have company up front. His top SP of 87 doesn’t quite fit with the best here, but as the co-longshot he makes for an interesting play.<\/P>

PP6 ST. PAULI GIRL 4\/1 <\/B>Though the name might suggest a gender identity crisis, this son of Milwaukee Brew has shown he can run with the boys for trainer booberryi. <\/I>He’s hit the board in 7 of his 8 races, winning 3 of them. The only time he missed was last time out when he stepped up to stakes rivals for the first time. He’d won his prior 2 against allowance company. Don’t know if it’s a class issue or he just didn’t fire that day. Closer will have speed to run down so we should find out here.<\/P>

PP7 GARGAMEL(IRE) 5\/1 <\/B>Galileo(IRE) son looks to be the speed of the speed here for trainer lopo87<\/I>. Ran off a nice 3 race win streak, culminating in a stakes win at these conditions, before fading in a Gr 2 effort at 11 furlongs last time out. Draws 22% jock. If that last effort didn’t demoralize him too much he looks to be extremely dangerous if he can draw just a bit clear of his rival up front early.<\/P>

PICKS <\/B>I’m gonna look for a little value here and go with Gargamel to win at 5\/1. As a back up, I’ll try a 3\/7 exactabox with Kirby Is Fast and Gragamel.<\/P><\/FONT><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
