The weather was seasonable and dry this week, and has left the turf rated as firm. The race runs over two miles, and is open to fillies and mares four years old and up. The purse is on the smaller side at $40000, but a stakes race is still a stakes race, and there is prestige to be had along with the paycheck. This is the second annual running of this stakes, won last year by Camaraderie who is still going strong with twenty three victories in forty five career starts. This year’s edition features a field of five well matched ladies ranging from four to seven years old. The odds are tightly packed with a 2/1 favorite and the longshot going off at a mere 4/1 odds. This one could be anyone’s race, so let’s have a closer look at the contenders.

PP 1) Git Down Sired by Beccari, Trained by twinspiral. Git Down is a four year old filly, making only her seventeenth career start here. This will be her fourth straight stakes start, and she’s seeking her first win. She has performed well for her trainer at allowance and stakes level, after being picked up in a midlevel claim, a level where she spent a good part of her early career. Her last ten starts have netted her an impressive 3-3-4-0-0 record, with a 92.9 best speed. She comes off a thirteen furlong stakes run in Illinois, where she finished a hard closing third. She has never been on the dirt in her career, and has never finished out of the top three, so turf is where she has stayed. Given that nine of sixteen runs where in claims or starter allowance, people might tend to discount this, but she has performed quite well for her new trainer at allowance and stakes level. She likes the distance here, going 2-0-1 in three starts beyond twelve furlongs, including back to back midlevel starter allowance victories at this distance last year. She is a deep closer, and her close has been excellent at all levels of competition. The extra distance may be a benefit to her here, and she should have some early speed to set her up.

PP 2) Pride Of Tazmania Sired by A.P. Indy, Trained by tazdevil. Pride Of Tazmania is the polar opposite of her opponent on the rail. She is a well raced seven year old mare, starting here for the forty seventh time. She has nine career stakes victories on her resume, her most recent in August of last year. Over the course of her last ten starts she has run to a 2-2-1-2-2 record with a best speed of 96.7 recorded last year. Her last race was an A4n outing at Epsom, where she finished third at fourteen furlongs on turf, closing down the stretch. This horse defines suface versatility with stakes victories and multiple 100+ speed factors recorded on both surfaces. She lives for the long haul, having made forty of her career starts beyond the twelve furlong mark, with 32 top three finishes. She likes to race from just off the pace at the head of the mid pack. She fairs excellently when she can stay within five or six lengths of the lead at the half, but gets in trouble if she ends up much further back. She tends to make her move rather late, and might fair better here with a faster jump from the gate. Her speeds have slowed a little this season and she faces some young legs here. Her position at the half should tell the story.

PP 3) Fairways N Green(GB) Sire by Kayf Tara(GB), trained by surlyn. Fairways N Greens(GB) is a six year old mare, taking the track for her thirty eighth time for this race. She has six stakes victories and boasts an 81 rank among older female marathoners. Her last ten starts have seen her put together a 3-4-1-0-0 record with her best speed being a 100.8 gained early last year. She comes off a stakes victory in South Dakota at this distance in her last start, easily handling a short field. It only took three dirt runs to convince her to go back to grass and stay there, and that is where all her career success has come. Twenty three of her career turf runs have gone to twelve furlongs and beyond. She has posted fifteen top three finishes over the course of those starts. She’s a fast starter and hasn’t shown much inclination to close from any deeper. She has two stakes victories in her last three starts, both of them at this distance. She hasn’t been showing the best speeds of her career, but has shown more than enough stamina to get the job done. Look for her to have a piece of the early lead here, but she’ll need to fight off some tough closers to bring home the victory here.

PP 4) In The Colony GA(GB) Sired by In The Wings(GB), Trained by jambos. In The Colony GA(GB) is a six year old mare, making her twenty seventh career start in this race. She makes her seventh stakes start here and is seeking her first victory at this level. She has galloped to a 2-4-1-1-2 record during her last ten starts, and has a best speed of 96.3 in the middle of last year. Her first two career starts were on dirt, but when he collected her first paycheck in her first turf start, he never looked back. Her success on turf has justified that decision. Her best speeds and much of her success have come in the eight to nine furlong range, but she has four top two finishes in five starts beyond twelve furlongs. She has a second and a fifth place finish at this distance. She has been working off a fast start for her past several races, and has shown the ability to hold on in longer starts. This one may be a bit too long, especially with the closing power in this race, and the early pressure on the front half. Look for her to press or set the early pace, but start to fade over the last quarter.

PP 5) Larceny Sired by Lear Fan, Trained by super12. Larceny is a four year old filly hoping to steal her first stakes victory in this one. This will be her fifteenth career start and her fourth at stakes level. Her last ten starts have resulted in a 3-3-0-1-0 record and she has notched a best speed of 97.4 earned late last year. Her last run was a twelve furlong turf stakes in North Florida where she finished a hard closing second. She loves the grass, and has only been off turf once in her career, and it was enough to keep her from trying it again. She has just started to stretch things out late last year, and it has paid dividends, earning her a victory and two places in four starts beyond twelve. This will be her longest to date by two furlongs. She’s a stone closer, and though not perfectly consistent, she has shown true flashes of brilliance closing up from deep. Her last two have been quite well run, and the extra distance here shouldn’t hurt her. If she can show that form in this one, she could very well surprise the field here.

[2,3,1

post-2101","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-previews","category-reviews","category-uncategorized
["GET
