The name of the race really is the That Goat Just Fainted Cup, and it’s a Grade II affair with a total purse of a quarter million dollars for fillies and mares 3 yrs old and up. It will be contested at a mile and a quarter on what’s expected to be a firm turf course on the Emerald Isle. Without further ado then, the ladies involved, by Post Position:

PP 1 – Grizabella (Storm Cat x Unbridled) is the favorite here at 2/1, and has some pretty good credentials too. Despite a clunker last time out, fading to a well-beaten 8th in the Grade II Empire State ‘Cap. Throwing out that race, her previous three were very solid, including a nice 2nd in the Grade II Barbara Bush in week 2468. She races best when she can stay with the leaders as a stalker. The pace will dictate Grizabella’s chances in this one.

PP 2 – Mother Deputy (Jade Hunter x Deputy Minister) may be a bit optimistic at 3/1, based on this 8 year old’s recent races. The step up to Graded Stakes may be a bit tough for this veteran since her last triple digit race was nine races back. She has some tactical speed, but might be hard-pressed to finish in the top three here.

PP 3 – Jaded Lovers (Boundary x Eastern Echo) might be in a bit over her head classwise, as she’s never raced in Graded company before, and she also may have issues with the distance, as she has done better in longer. In fact her last win was at 13 furlongs, where she closed hard to take it. If she can move earlier this time, she has a shot, but she’ll need the best race she’s ever had to do it.

PP 4 – Financial Disaster(IRE) (Northern Spur x National Zenith) is another who appears to like a longer race, being a stone closer that so far has done much better at the 13 furlong distance than the current 10. She’ll also need to get her motor running earlier than she has recently to show here on Saturday.

PP 5 – Bring Me Joy (Forty Niner x Nijinsky II). A very intriguing second choice in the betting at 5/2, all this filly does lately is win. In her last 8 races, she’s come home with 6 wins and a place. The class may be an issue, as there were no Graded stakes in those last 8, but each of those wins were going away, and they were done at a variety of distances, from 10.5 to 16 furlongs. If she judges the pace well, and there doesn’t seem to be any run-away speed here. A very good shot for the winner’s circle here.

PP 6 – Ice Blast (Saithor x Press Card) comes in with the highest odds in this field, and, at least on paper, seems outclassed by this field. With 3 wins in 38 tries, and a high speed in the last two years at 95 (and that was in an allowance), this one will be hard-pressed to make an impact. but then again, that’s why the races are actually run.

[2

post-207","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-previews
["GET
