The bookmakers have 7 of the 10 runners no more than 6 points apart and a tight contest is expected. Let`s take a look….

1 – King Of The West – Won the first 3 starts of his 3yo campaign last season and went on to finish well beaten at long odds in a couple of G1`s including the Derby De English. His form tailed off after those tough races and he went on to struggle in the allowance ranks. A drop into a 50k claimer for his 4yo debut 5 weeks ago seemed to revitalise the horse and he won, leading all the way, with a 101sp. Still in the care of Borsato it`s hard to see this horse getting a lead in this company and odds of 25-1 look reasonable.

2 – Merry Mex – 4yo deputy minister colt from gradeone`s stable found his niche when switched to turf midway through last year winning 3 allowances over 8.5f before finishing the season with a staying on 3rd in an owner restricted stakes race over a mile. Continued on the upgrade by winning the “Cheyenne Cad Stakes” in Jaunuary and then running a promising race, stepped up into graded class, in the G3 Sussex Handicap where he finished in the midfield (just behind Awesome Affair). He has every chance on that Sussex running.

3 – Ronaldo`s Storm – An ultra consistent stakes running 6 year old has finished in the money in 20 of his 25 career starts the highlight being a 3rd in a G1 as a 4yo. 6 stakes wins to his name with a 106sp late last year over this trip showing he still has lots to offer. 9-2 third favourite coming off a nice break should be involved in the finish.

4 – Rise To KLP – Another very consistent entry has amassed $835,000 in prizemoney in 33 career starts who appears effective on any surface over a variety of distances. Rated 31st in the turf classic division after 13 stakes wins and 3 placed finishes in Graded company he clearly retains plenty of ability judged on his lifetime best equalling 108sp two runs back. If he`s on his best form he`ll take plenty of beating and that`s why he`s 4-1 second best.

5 – Dream Village – 5yo french bred trained by Midaseyes came from way off the pace to land an allowance race on his penultimate start. Generally this son of Dream Well has struggled when competing at stakes level and, given the overall balance of his form, he should find things a bit hot in this company. 7-1 looks short enough and he has lots on his plate here.

6 – King Of Kilmore – Comparatively lightly raced 4yo by Australian champion Lonhro seems to be improving all the time. He had a fair level of form as a 3 year old but has really taken off this season, despite a disappointing effort in the G1 Roy Higgins at the Equinics, he recorded the biggest win of his career last time (first stakes victory). Provided this race does`nt come too soon and in the hope he`s still getting better he should be able to mix it with some of the more experienced rivals he meets here.

7 – I`veseenthelite – A shrewd 25k claim by trainer seekgold at the end of 2004 went on to win 3 allowances last year. He has taken the step up to stakes class this season adequately most notably when runner up over 10f in week 2748 where he looked like he could do with more distance. He`s 12-1 here and may find things happening a bit quick.

8 – Doc Halliday – Ambitious looking entry by togasans has struggled every time he`s been enetered in a stakes. He does`nt have much going for him compared to the majority of this field and he can be confidently passed over.

9 – Headlong – 4 year old Pulpit colt has only seen the track 8 times and won 5 of them including 4 on the trot last season. It`s questionable if his overall form is quite up to the level of these competitors and he also looks better over further but he`s on the upgrade and, regardless of how he runs here, he`s one to keep an eye out for in future.

10 – Awesome Affair – Millerfar2 has the favourite in this Awesome Again horse who has drawn the outside post. Impressive winner of the G3 Boogity Bear stakes last season he has shown he is capable of holding his own in graded company on more than one occasion. Finished just in front of Merry Mex when 6th in a G3 last time but that was`nt his true form and, if he can be forgiven that run, is the class horse in the field and the one to beat.

Summary – It`s not hard to see why these are closely matched in the betting. Awesome Affair looks a worthy favourite and, with not much pace in the race, his running style will be well suited to this field. He is selected in the hope he can overcome his poor draw. Merry Mex was`nt far behind the selection when they met a month ago but it`s hard to get past that horse`s poor effort last time. The hardy pair Ronaldo`s Storm and Rise To KLP wont make life easy for the favourite and the improving Headlong is another to watch out for.

[2

post-2063","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-previews
["GET
