The FLYPHARD’S WORLD Memorial Stakes

As is so often the case on a muddy track, we had horses that got out front in th FLYPHARD’s WORLD Memorial Stakes race and kicked enough mud back at the horses behind them that they were never a factor. We ended up with a three horse race from start to finish that looked more like a three across NASCAR race than a horse race. There was enough bumping and pushing and trading places throughout that you didn’t know who was going to win until they went under the checkered flag!

In the end, the cagey old veteran GREEK PREIST ruled the day and added to his already storied career. This was his 11th winning race and pushed his lifetime earnings to over half a million dollars. It was also his sixth win on an off track. That shows how well trainer AndySakMar knows his horse. Give credit as well to the magical hands of jockey Kelley who found just a little bit more for the Priest to give in the final drive home in the stretch. This six year old threw a nice 101 SPF on a real disaster of a track and showed the youngsters in the race how you get it done.

The other two participants in this rock ‘em – sock ‘em race were JACKS’ BEST XP(IRE) and JACKS’ BEST XP(IRE) WMD jumped out to the early lead with the other two right on his shoulder. There was contact several times between the three who traded leads as often as rock stars trade spouses. In the end GREEK PRIEST seemingly lunged at the wire to secure the win over JACKS’ BEST XP(IRE) by a tiny margin and they both finished aheas of JACKS’ BEST XP(IRE) and a hard charging but too late STEPPING STONE.

Just when you figure the old guy is about done, he comes back and throws a great race like this. You can bet that his trainer gets thoughts of sending him out to pasture but is afraid that he will miss an exciting win like this one. It doesn’t matter how many you saddle up, races like this are really sweet. So if your horse gets in a race with an old guy but the name of GREEK PREIST , tell your jockey not too look back because he might be gaining on you.
