We continue to celebrate our 2013 champions for the Bargain Bred Racing Series. In the previous article two and three year old runners received their honors. We now move to the sprinters and milers who put up some of the faster speed figures in the series.<\/p>\n
Turf Sprint<\/b><\/p>\n
The races that make up this division are the are the five furlong Death Valley Oasis, the seven furlong Everglades, the six furlong Tokyo Spring and the five and a half furlong Silent Witness. The fillies and mares do not have a separate turf division and they have held their own over the years in this division. The year started off with the Death Valley Oasis where Storm on the Chase set the pace followed closely by Eagle View. The fractions were not all that demanding but it was stalker Distinct Border tracked down Eagle View and Storm on the Chase to earn the win.<\/p>\n
In the Everglades Storm on the Cape set the pace but this time it was a fast pace. Slinging Tradition pressed Storm on the Cape and took over at the top of the stretch where he held off the closing Pile it Up and Otara Duke. In the Tokyo Sprint it was Storm on the Cape once again setting the pace but it was Otara Duke and Pile It Up with strong stretch drives this time around with Otara Duke getting the win by a length and a half over Pile it Up.<\/p>\n
So the division was close going into the Bargain Bowl for the Silent Witness. Once again Storm on the Cape set the pace but this time he had the three year old filly Proba Thief on his hip. At the top of the stretch the three year old filly got her head in front and fought off a stubborn Storm on the Cape the length of the stretch for a three quarter length victory. Otara Duke closed from mid pack to get up for third.<\/p>\n
The Bargie goes to Otara Duke. He earned a win and two thirds scoring him 20 points. Storm on the Cape danced every dance and earned points in each race finishing second in the standings with 18 points. The Hawkz stables take home another Bargie. Congrats to the Hawkz stables.<\/p>\n
Sprint<\/b><\/p>\n
The sprint division is made up of the six and a half furlong Broadway Sprint, the six furlong Bargain Dash, the seven furlong Tombstone, and the six furlong Tale of Two Places.\u00a0 The year began with the Broadway Sprint where the 2012 Tale of Two Places winner Wariuz Attack looked prominent at the top of the stretch but Distinct Border took control earning a 107 speed figure. In the Bargain Dash Distinct Border was a marked horse but he survived a late charge by Zoully in the stretch to win by half a length.<\/p>\n
Zoully got revenge in the Tombstone. Stalking the very quick early pace Zoully jumped to the lead in mid-stretch and powered away to win by two and a quarter lengths over Celestial Reward earing a whopping 110 speed figure. Distinct Border was a little closer to the pace and finished third. In the Tale of Two Places at the Bargain Bowl it was the eighteen to one three year old Ciullo who pounced on pace setting Grass Jr. to win by a length and a half earning a 104 speed figure.<\/p>\n
The Bargie goes to Distinct Border. He did not finish the year well but had two wins and a third in the other races earning 24 division points. Second went to Zoully with 19 divisional points. Congrats to the Fastnfirm stables on a hard earned Bargie.<\/p>\n
Filly and Mare Sprint<\/b><\/p>\n
The races that make up this division are the five and a half furlong Death Valley Starlet, the six furlong Sugar and Spice, the six and a half furling Paint Brush and the six furlong Chance For Delta. Deep closing Weather Warming closed with a rush over taking pace setting Glorious Detail at the wire for a quarter length win. Then in the Sugar and Spice Weather Warming did it again this time out closing Secret Inn and three year old Angurugu to win by almost two lengths.<\/p>\n
In the Paint Brush Albar sat just off the pace and took the lead around the turn holding the hard charging Weather Warming off by a length. Rolling into the Bargain Bowl Weather Warming had a large lead in the division but was seeking her second Bargain Bowl win. Glorious Detail was discounted at eighteen to one by the public as she set a quick early pace. This time she would not be run down and held on to beat Weather Warming by half a length.<\/p>\n
The Bargie goes to Weather Warming. With two wins and two seconds in the four races she earned 35 divisional points. Glorious Details Chance for Delta win put her in second in the standings with 21 points. Congrats to Desparado on a great filly. She has run second and third in grade three company outside the Bargain Bred Racing Series and is sure to be a factor this year.<\/p>\n
Turf Mile<\/b><\/p>\n
This division is made of the Silenus Mile, Kamikaze Mile, Lantau Mile, and the Kaif Mile. The Silenus Mile on Derby Day boasted a field with nine stakes winners of the twelve runners. Grey Cossack rose to the level of competition sitting toward the back early and out closing Skyscrapist in the stretch to win by half a length earning a 106 speed figure. Slinging Tradition was third.<\/p>\n
In the Kamikaze Mile Slinging Tradition pressed a fast pace and ran them off their feet holding on by a little more than a length over Skyscrapist. The inaugural running of the Lantau Mile drew a short field of five that saw Mirage Drive out duel Grey Cossack in the stretch for an almost two length win. The Kaif Mile at the Bargain Bowl had the closest finish of any race at the Bargain Bowl. A half-length is all that separated the first four finishers. They entered the stretch in fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth position respectively all closing with fury. Skyscrapist came out on top just edging ahead of three year old filly Angurugu, Mirage Drive and Grey Cossack. It was four lengths back to the fifth place finisher with Skyscrapist earning a 105 speed figure.<\/p>\n
The Bargie goes to Skyscrapist. With a win and two seconds Skyscrapist earned 27 divisional points. Mirage Drive earned 20 and Grey Cossack earned 19. A half-length decided this division congrats to the Planoaxius stables on the Bargie win. Skyscrapist has won back to back races this winter so he looks ready for the 2014 season.<\/p>\n

Dirt Mile<\/b><\/p>\n
This division consists of the Big City Mile, the Gumball Mile and the Sir Bear Mile. \u00a0Four year old DTG set the tone by going to the lead and never really being threatened on his way to a length and a half win earning a 106 speed figure. The Gumball mile saw a pair of three year olds show their older rivals they were in trouble. Karaka Stutz, the three year old Bargie winner, went to the lead and did not look back holding off Derby Hat by almost two lengths. Both the three year olds earned good speed figures of 105 and 103.<\/p>\n
At the Bargain Bowl in the Sir Bear Mile it was another three year old in Van Heusen who went to the lead and ran off with the race. Karaka Stutz stalked and pounced his was to second with Luis Aparicio earning third. So three races, three winners and all three went gate to wire.<\/p>\n
Picking up his second Bargie is Karaka Stutz. His win and second at the Bargain Bowl earned him 19 divisional points, with Van Heusen earning 15 points to finish second. A good three year old can clean up and that is just what Hawkz\u2019s Karaka Stutz did in 2013.<\/p>\n
