Charlie takes a look at those last few races and says, no. Taking a deeper look into the lifetime PPs, and we see that Bluebell has excelled through two excellent campaigns in stakes company, winning and placing in multiple stake races over the past two years. It appears those long, hard months of racing have taken their toll a bit of late, as Bluebell began to go south late last year. She’s come back off a short layoff with a third last out, but it’s been a while since this mare threw a triple-digit speed fig and she looks like her best races are behind her. Further reason to oppose: The barn is a stone cold 0-21 this year. Now watch her go.

SEASCAPE out of the rrr barn is second in the qualifying order. This is the one Charlie likes, making her the 4-1 fave. Further enticing Old Waterford railbirds is the presence of leading jockey S. Tate. This 6yo Cape Town mare hasn’t been able to handle graded company, but she’s completely consistent in this class of stake, only missing the board once in eight tries. She’s recovered before from tough races in graded events, and there’s no reason she can’t rebound here just like she has before. The barn is 1-11 this year and looking to earn.

ACCELERANDO out of the cms424 barn qualifies third with 33 points. This 4yo daughter of Danzig is a little more lightly seasoned than some of her counterparts, taking only her 23rd call to the post here Saturday. She’s always been a downtown closer, and trainer cms424, who is a solid 3-24 this year with two allowance wins, has alternated her between allowance and stakes company. He keeps her in stakes here off a second place finish in a stake, perhaps a positive indicator of trainer confidence. She’s on the board in three straight stakes now, and has proven lately that she can run at least second at 10 furlongs this class. An extra half a furlong here Saturday. How far up can her late flight take her? We’ll see.

CLASSIC MAMBO checks in fourth for the mrblacktie stable. Let’s start off by saying we’ll take $2,500 to win, please. At 11-1, what, are you nuts? Charlie, come on. This filly is the lightliest raced of the lightly raced in here, making only her 13th career start, and she was third last out in a Grade I, the only on-the-board finish we’re seeing of late in a class that high among Saturday’s racers. That was her first-ever triple-digit speed fig, and anything close to that wins on Saturday. Step up to those windows with your Fake Cash and let ‘er fly, boys. This one’s the winner. That 1-12 mark for mrblacktie is about to get a little more spiffy.

Uh oh, look out Simmers, we got none other than the No. 1 Texasace barn in fifth place with TEXAS PRIDE. This is about as large a check mark as a horse can get in terms of connections. Of the 8,469 stables that have started a horse this year, Texasace is No. 1, already having earned $1.14 million with 10 wins from 25 starters, for a blazing hot strike rate of 40 percent. So, in terms of trainers in this race, you are pretty much looking at Bobby Frankel on steroids here. Texas Pride has to be a quality filly even to be included in this barn, and she is. Making her 21st career start here, this 4yo daughter of Deputy Minister is moving forward big time and is only a notch below Grade I success. She was fifth last out in the Grade I Steve Cauthen, missing by only two lengths to K’s ARAKU, the No. 2-ranked distance older filly in the Sim. Before that, it was two easy wins in a row, including a score three back at this exact class and distance. Well, maybe a little better class, as that stake was in California, where the purses are slightly higher than the local Appalachian discount rate. Even if she wins this $35,000 race, she’s going to drag down the barn’s earnings per start, which currently stand at over $45,000. It’s an honor to have such a top-flight operation slumming with us here at the Mountain Oval, and if Texas Pride won this race going away, it would be no surprise whatsover.

Back to the mere mortals with SIX TILL SUNSET(GB) and bobcat, who is doing a nice job in his own right so far this year with two wins from 15 starts. This daughter of Kris can run all day, and she likes to win, as evidenced by those 13 career wins from 38 starts. That’s the best kind of horse, the one that knows to finish ahead of the others. To do so here, Six Till Sunset may need some pace help, as she shortens significantly from consecutive efforts at 14 and 16 furlongs. She drops back down to the non-graded level Saturday, having been a respectable fifth, passing 13 horses in the Grade I Angel Cordero Jr. She’s won three of her past six non-graded stakes starts, but those were all going longer. Hard to say if she can get going fast enough here to reach the leaders by the finish line, which will be coming up a lot quicker than she’s used to.

TRACK BEER BITES out of the crosscreek stable is next. Drunken Charlie is giving props to this one at only 7-1, based off that big 102 speed fig last out in a restricted allowance. That race was only 8.5 furlongs, though, and it doesn’t seem likely that big fig is going to translate to the extra two furlongs. Who knows how good this filly might be, but she has yet to prove herself at the class or distance, and there are several others in here who are well established at both. She would surprise and I think she is an underlay.

Kyclocker brings ENTOURAGE in next. This Sim veteran barn of 51 wins is off to a slow start in 2006, not having a winner yet from 15 starters. This 4yo daughter of Cryptoclearance earned her way into stakes competition by winning four of five in the allowance ranks. She was third two back in her first stake try, but regressed to be beaten 13 lengths in fifth last out and seems to be going a bit sour. Tough field to rebound against here, that’s for sure.

NEVER START out of the biggd stable qualifies ninth. Bet all you can on this one if you can find a bookie to take action on the leader into the first turn. She is stretching out from sprints at 7 and 6.5 furlongs in which she was leading or contesting the pace. Safe to say she’s the lonely leader in this group, but it would be a surprise if she can carry that advantage all the way to the wire. Her connections don’t exactly compliment her chances, as Jocko Maloney is riding for poop this year and never met a frontrunner he liked, and biggd is a cold 1-21 so far in 2006. Like with Track Beer Bites, she’s an unrealistic 7-1 and seems seriously underlaid. Has the look of a rabbit.

Not too many contest horses in this race. Wassie enters a longshot with NOELLE’S OREO G out of his zz stable. This 4yo daughter of Forty Niner took a hit in the fanny the last time she raced here, ninth and 23 lengths up the track in the Judge Judge Challenge in week 2727. She came back all right from that, though, hitting the board in a stake for the first time in her brief career in the next when third in an Ontario stake. She didn’t run too much while sixth last out in an allowance, though. So, her current form is lacking, and she’s up against it in this field in terms of established class. She also likes to lead and she’s trumped on that by the aforementioned rabbit Never Start. Tough two points for Wassie here.

GOD OF WAR out of the Simsters1 stable kind of fits the profile of the aforementioned Six Till Sunset, in that she’s a deep closer shortening in distance. Nothing benefits a plodder like a stopping rabbit, however, and the presence of Never Start in this race can only serve to enhance the chances of God of War and Six Till Sunset. This daughter of Storm Cat has won an owner-restricted stake, and was second in a Grade 3, so she’s not out of the question class-wise. She can get the distance, we know that much.

Finally, we have Ts1442 taking a shot with TOM’S SILENT STORM out of the south40 stable. This one hasn’t been hitting the exacta lately and takes a big jump in distance here.

GOOD LUCK EVERYBODY!!!!

[2

post-1843","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-previews
["GET
