The Grade 1 Canada Mile will be held in Ontario, Canada on the turf track and has attracted some top notch turf runners from across the globe. The Grade 1 race, with its purse of $1,000,000 will be up for grabs this weekend for the field of ten that is entered to take a shot at the prestigious race. Let’s take a look at these ten contenders that will be taking to the gate on Sunday
1. More To Prosper (AUS) – (More Than Ready x Kris S. x Mr. Prospector) – mattyw – K. Ledwith – 11/1
On the rail for this weekends race, this Australian-bred three-year-old is out of the graded placed broodmare Prospector S. The bay colt has surpassed the accomplishments of his dam, already becoming a Grade II winner, but the elusive Grade I win has so far eluded him. The most recent start for the horse was across the continent in California during the Dell Web Mile (G2). Breaking towards the back of the field at the start, the colt made his move during the third call of the race, and eventually got up to win by a close neck at the wire, setting a sizzling speed figure of one hundred sixteen. The colt also won two prior races, the Millennium Win Turf Sprint, a listed stakes race at seven furlongs, as well as a mile long allowance race. His latest start at Grade I level left him just out of the money in sixth during The French 2000 Guineas. The colt is fairly versatile and has run from off the pace as well as close up to the pace. As long as he gets a good break he will likely settle in behind a few front runners and take the race on from there.
2. Leaning Tower (ENG) – (Dansili (GB) x Galileo (IRE) x Dynaformer) – favetrick5 – J. Drozd – 10/1
Next into the gate, the five-year-old English bred horse who has been racing recently in Queensland, Australia. The chestnut horse is out of the allowance winning broodmare Pisa’s Dynamo. Her English-bred offspring has already won over a million in career earnings and is already an accomplished Grade I winner, but there may be some question as to wether or not the horse is at the top of his game. His most recent start in the Cad Smash Turf Mile, a listed stakes race in Queensland, Australia, left the horse coming home crossing the wire six and a half lengths back in ninth position, setting a speed figure of one hundred one. Prior to this the horse just managed to hold on to a fifth place in the money position during a six and a half furlong allowance race. His last start at a graded level, which came in June, was in The Silver Surfer (G3) at a mile in South Africa, where he came home to finish eighth and his last win in any race was February of this year during an breeding restricted allowance race at a mile in Berkshire, England. The connections are hoping that the horse will put in a better result here than in his more recent races. The horse should be forwardly placed at the break of the race this weekend.
3. Manipulated Market (GB) – (Dansili (GB) x Sadler’s Wells x Buckpasser) – skunkbred2 – GD Mate – 3/1
The favorite going into this weekends race and the second horse to be sired by Dansili (GB) to enter the starting gate for the Canada Mile (G1), this horse is as well a former Grade I winner as well as earning over a million in lifetime earnings. At five years of age, the brown colt is approaching his thirtieth career start and could go over the two million dollar mark in career earnings soon if he can notch a couple more victories under his belt. The most recent start for the horse came overseas in Newmarket, England during The Suffix (G1) at a mile over a firm course just like what he will be facing this weekend in the Canada Mile (G1). The horse was settled back towards the rear of the field and not urged forward to attempt to challenge until quite late in the stretch. Some horse racing fans might say the horse was urged to make his move too late in the race as he ran out of ground at the wire to finish four lengths back in fourth, setting a speed figure of one hundred fourteen. In a prior race, The Queen Sam (G1), the horse made a move to challenge a little earlier on in the race and went on to win by three-quarters of a length despite being well off the pace at the break. Prior to this the horse also won the Sydney Mile (G1) in similar fashion over the Victoria, Australia turf track. The brown horse will most likely run this Sunday’s race in a similar fashion, setting towards the rear of the field out of the gate and making a move for the lead towards the later part of the race.
4. Fantasmagorical – (Dynaformer x Storm Cat x Fusaichi Pegasus) – jungleboy – F. Gossett – 29/1
The longshot in Sunday’s race and the only horse to make it to the gate and have not won a prior graded stakes race is this three-year-old colt out of the late Dynaformer. The colt has made a lucky thirteen career starts to date, and despite never having won a graded race, he has placed in one. The most recent start for the brown horse, ranked number thirty-three in his division, was The Untouchable (G3) at a mile. Breaking out of the gate towards the rear of the field, the colts position did not improve much throughout the course of the race, and he more or less held his own as he came home to cross the wire in eighth, setting a speed figure of one hundred five. Prior to this the horse finished a well distanced ninth in The St. James Tavern (G2) where he set a speed figure of only twelve. His most accomplished graded starts came in The French 2000 Guineas (G1) and The Irish 2000 Guineas (G3), in which he finished second in both races. Depending upon the pace this weekend, the colt could either be placed mid-pack out of the gate or held farther off the pace as a closer.
5. Judd’s Surprise (GER) – (Monsun (GER) x Galileo (IRE) x Kingmambo) – d2912 – J. Wilson – 6/1
Breaking in the center of the field for this weekends race, the six-year-old chestnut horse will be the oldest horse to go into the starting gate on Sunday. Lightly raced for his years with just twenty-nine lifetime starts, the chestnut is approaching the million dollar mark in career earnings, and a win here in the Canada Mile (G1) could put him over the top in that category. For now, he is an accomplished Grade II winner. The most recent start for the horse came in New York during the Fivestarnick Handicap (G2) at eight and a half furlongs. Breaking out of the gate towards the rear of the field, the horse made his move later on down the stretch of the race, ultimately crossing the wire in second, one and three-quarter lengths off the pace of the winner. He set a speed figure of one hundred nine for the race. Prior to this the horse made a start here on the Ontario track during The Edward’s Kingdom (G2) at nine furlongs. He crossed the wire third in this race, back off the pace by two and three-quarter lengths. It has been a while since the horse has last tasted victory, his most recent win coming in December of last year during The Tropical Grass (G3) at nine furlongs in Florida. This will be yet another runner who will likely want to run off the pace as a closer this Sunday, however he has also shown talent running mid-pack, so perhaps we may find him there as jockeys may change running styles up a bit to avoid a traffic jam out on the track.
6. Special Ballade (Blame x Rahy x Storm Cat) – chloedawg – O. Brim – 7/1
Working our way through the second half of the field, the four-year-old colt going into the sixth slot is out of the allowance winning broodmare Transactions. Set to make his twentieth career start this weekend in the Canada Mile, the chestnut has seven career wins and is a Grade II winner. The most recent start for the Kentucky-bred colt is the Dell Web Mile (G2), where he ran against More To Prosper (AUS) who will also be running in the race this Sunday. Despite going out to an early lead out of the gate, the colt would falter in the final furlongs and cross the wire in eighth, back by a good distance of eight and a half furlongs from More To Prosper (AUS) who was the eventual winner. The colt fared much better in his three prior starts, which included a fourth place finish in The Sparkler Handicap (G2) at a mile, The Cobbler Mile (G1) and, his most recent win, the Arcade Handicap (G2), also at a mile. This race the colt took in wire to wire fashion, setting a speed figure of one hundred fourteen in his length and a half victory. Like the vast majority of his races to date, the colt will likely be forwardly placed in the Canada Mile (G1) this weekend, and will very possibly be the pacesetter out of the gate when the field goes out onto the track.
7. Spirit Master (IRE) – (Invincible Spirit (IRE) x Diesis (GB) x Mr. Prospector) – ellarev – M. Wallace – 5/1
Out of the stakes winning broodmare Tull’s Design, this four-year-old chestnut colt is a Grade II winner and is fast approaching the half a million dollar mark and could easily achieve that with a well placed finish in this race. The most recent start for the colt came overseas in Deauville, France during the Jack The Man Stakes (G2) over a mile on the turf. Breaking around the middle position of the field out of the gate, the colt did not progress any in his standings throughout the race and crossed the wire where he started in seventh, four lengths back off the winner. He set a speed figure of one hundred four. His prior race was more of a characteristic start for the colt. It came in The Silver Surfer (G3) in South Africa, also at a mile. Breaking closer to the pace behind a couple of front runners, the colt stalked the pace for a short time and then took control of the race, going on to win by a length and a half with a more impressive speed figure of one hundred fourteen. Along with this race, he also scored two other consecutive wins with victories in The Premium Stakes (G2) and the April Showers Cap (G2). If the colt is going to do well this weekend, he’ll likely have to be forwardly placed, either as a pacesetter or just off of a couple front runners as his attempts to come from behind and win have usually not fared as well.
8. Outback Andy – (Street Cry (IRE) x Giant’s Causeway x Danzig) – iluka – D. Evans – 4/1
Second betting choice for the race this weekend, this six-year-old brown horse, one of the older horses in the field for the race, will be inching closer to five million in career earnings if he does well on Sunday. The brown horse is already a Grade I winner and has one eleven times in his twenty-seven career starts. He will also be returning to graded stakes racing this weekend after a step down in class in order to prep for the Canada Mile (G1). The most recent start for the horse was in an eight and a half furlong allowance race in Berkshire, England last month. Breaking out of the gate and settling back into the middle of the pack, the horse was urged forward later on and went on to win effortlessly by three lengths with a speed figure of one hundred. His most recent graded start was in The Queen Sam (G1) in Berkshire, England a couple of weeks earlier where he just managed to hang on to an in money finish after he crossed the line in fifth, setting a speed figure of one hundred four. The horse will also be coming back to try to claim his title back again; he won this race back in 2011. Like many of his races, he will likely be held back towards the middle of the field at the start before he is let to try to run for the lead.
9. Quality Buzz – (Elusive Quality x El Prado (IRE) x Giant’s Causeway) – jetai – W. Cahill – 7/1
Almost at the last of our horses in this weekends race, we come to the lone filly in the race. The striking light gray will be easy to spot out on the track as she makes her first start against the boys in her career. Being the number two ranked filly in her division, its no wonder she’s been given a shot to prove herself against the boys. Out of the broodmare Buzzdrinksthebeers, the four-year-old filly has far exceeded the talents of her dam and is a Grade I winner of almost two million dollars. The filly is coming off of three consecutive victories before going into the Canada Mile (GI) this weekend, including The Start Up (G1), the Breeders’ Bowl Game (G1) and The Wilshire Boulevard (G2), all at a mile on the turf over various tracks. The only question for the filly will be how she is able to run with the boys. She will likely be held far off the pace at the break and set to run as a closer in race.
10. Elite Dimaggio (IRE) – (Rock Of Gibraltar (IRE) x Sadler’s Wells x Dynaformer) – eliteracing – J. Brewer – 24/1
The last horse to go into the starting gate on Sunday, the three-year-old brown colt will be making his sixteenth career start once he sets foot out on the track. His greatest accomplishment so far is as a Grade II winner. With just three wins in fifteen lifetime starts, the colt is racing at a high level for his relative few starts compared to the rest of the field. The Irish-bred colts most recent race came in New York during The Hall of Fame (G2) at nine furlongs on the turf. Breaking out of the gate just off the pace of the front runner, the colt tired throughout the race and gradually began to fall back. He crossed the wire in eighth, nine and a quarter lengths off the pace while setting a speed figure of one hundred two, which actually equalled a lifetime best speed figure set by the colt for a fifth place finish in the South African Classic (G2) earlier this year. The most recent win for the colt was a wire to wire victory in a mile long allowance race in British Columbia, Canada a few months ago. The colt should be forwardly placed on Sunday, either as a potential pacesetter, or just off the pace of a couple of other runners out of the gate.

[4

post-16553","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-general
["GET
