Standing along the rail at Gulfstream Park in Florida we are getting set to run down the PANHANDLE OAKS Stakes Race and what a field we have! Three of the Top Five ranked horses and a couple more in the Top 20. This is the first good look this year at who may be competing in the Equinics and at Kentucky in May. The weatherman says that it is going to be beautiful and they are only wrong about as often as a handicapper! I am really excited about this super race for three year old fillies so let\u2019s take a look:<\/font>\t\t\t\t\t

Eight of eight in the money for this Bertrando out of Never Fade Away Ga offspring. She has only run the mile one time but she seemed to like it quite well with a 90 spf and a win in the Orange Bingo Bonanza Stakes. She hasn\u2019t run against this level of competition but \u201cyou\u2019se gots to start somewheres!\u201d Trainer Burn1downs knows how to win, just look at his percentage. He has to be tickled with this filly and may be more so after his race. Likes to ride the rail and so does jockey Marshall so they will be railroading it. <\/p>\n

I\u2019ve been following this Mt Livermore filly for almost a year now and stood on the rail as she flew down the stretch to win the Breeders Bowl last fall. She finished the year by uncharacteristically jumping out to the lead during DelPenn Days and came in a disappointing sixth where she finished behind PAY NO ATTENTION and BIT OF A RUSE, both in this race. She goes into her three year old season and has already amassed three quarters of a million in earnings. Darling is one of the tracks best and will guide her home in the top tier.<\/p>\n

Irish bred filly by El Prado is another of his talented offspring. This black beauty likes to flash down the stretch and had done so four times in a row before dealing with an off track in her last outing. She\u2019s only had one race at a mile or more but it was probably her best, pulling away a bit at the end with her best spf to date.(86) She\u2019s been coming on strong lately and had good workouts all week. There are whispers around the barns that she is one to keep and eye on.<\/p>\n

This Johannesburg out of Wizard of Oz filly has continued to improve since her Maiden and has shown that she really likes this distance. She had the lead at DelPenn last time out and just surrendered it at the end to TENACIOUS V which is nothing to be ashamed of. You had better be paying attention here as this could easily be the year of PAY NO ATTENTION. I like her Morning Line odds and may take a piece of that at race time. Baumann and trainer Simsters1 both know how to bring them home.<\/p>\n

I love this filly\u2019s name almost as much as she loves the grass. She\u2019s only run twice on the green but both races were stakes that she ran wire to wire for the win. Some of the early risers thought they might get a nice number to wager on this one but her workouts and last two races are driving the price down. Her Daddy, Vindication would be proud of her and so is trainer Desperado. She might be just coming into her own for this year. I would like to pick her here but would like to watch one more race on turf first.<\/p>\n

After just missing a win in her very first race, this Storm Cat out of Nijinsky Tune girl has won all four races she\u2019s entered including the Silver Spoon GII last time out. Not only that but her times keep getting better and she now has the best speed figures in this race. She rocked some nice horses in the Silver Spoon and is really taking aim at the big girls this time. She has something to prove and it\u2019s hard to bet against her. Barnett has been hot so far this year in the Sunshine State and wants to keep that streak alive too.<\/p>\n

She\u2019s won three of seven races but might be in a bit over her head here. She certainly is a nice looking Fasliyev filly out of Almost Not Ash but the competition here is no ordinary race. Her last race out, a *150 Allowance was here best to date with a nice 83 spf but she is going to have to go even better this race to finish in the money. Nason will do his best which is usually pretty good but it will surprise this handicapper if he can bring her home.<\/p>\n

Aztec Gem needs a bit of seasoning yet and this race may give it to her in spades. She just missed by running second in her last two, both stakes events. She seemed to like the mile jaunt and though she will go off as the longshot, I expect a lot of heart from both her and jockey McKellar. That\u2019s why they make them run the race instead of just paying out by the odds. This pretty brown filly is an Orientate offspring.<\/p>\n

This Mineshaft out of Sun Grazer filly was moving up the Top 40 Charts with a bullet until she fell with a thump at DelPenn. She stumbled out of the gate and was listless throughout with a very disappointing 10th place finish. Trainer MrBigB has her back on her oats and is looking for radical improvement here. This race may show whether she belongs in this company or not. MrBigB and jockey Barrett need to figure out what went wrong last time in a hurry.<\/p>\n

Lightly raced Ascendancy has looked really nice the last two of her three outings. They were both on the grass and she figures to be a lady to be reckoned with in the very near future. Whether she is ready for this fast crowd remains to be seen. Trainer Lbgong will tell Stubbs to hold her back until the stretch drive but there is lots of late speed in this gathering. She could make it interesting though.<\/p>\n

This Seeking the Gold offspring out of Danehill Reef shows why she is the number one ranked filly at this distance. She won three in a row including the Grade I Graduation Stakes before falling to third on DelPenn Day where she finished behind TENACIOUS V the number two ranked filly and PAY NO ATTENTION who she is running against again here. She ran her best speed to date there but just didn\u2019t seem to be able to pull the trigger when the time for that final jump came. That has to be a worry for Owner Gradeone but Gardner in the stirrups they may get her back to her winning ways in a hurry.<\/font><\/p>\n

COSMO GIRL<\/b> will have her coming out party and make her the target to aim for this year for the rest of the top three year olds.<\/p>\n
