The marathoners are on display this week, going 14 furlongs on the dirt course for a purse of $75,000. The track has come up good for this one.

Headlining this race and leading off the post parade is local Ireland horse Green Lantern(Ire). The 5yo Green Lightning horse owned by danire runs back here after his last appearance in the Alychocolate Count Special, which featured some pretty tough competition in the way of graded winners. This time he will find the competition much more to his liking, and goes off favored at 8/5. He has hit the board in both of his starts on an off track, so there’s much to like here, especially since Mizzi Russell once again gets the ride.

In post two is kevoman4’s Senor Roberto(Ire). This 3yo by High Chaparral(Ire) is stakes-placed at 12 furlongs and has run two miles, so the distance won’t be a problem for him. He’s run on an off track once and although he did not hit the board, his speed figure didn’t suffer much either, so he should pose a challenge for the favorite at 2/1. A. Reed will look to have him stalking the pace.

In post three is cockette’s Hsiao Ch’u, a 5yo by Charismatic. He’d been running somewhat poorly on turf, but sprang to life last time out on dirt, posting a 95 over 12 furlongs. If he can repeat that kind of effort he’ll be right in the running here, although jockey T. Ranger doesn’t inspire much confidence. His off track experiences show no real distaste for the less than perfect conditions. He goes off at 8/1.

In post four is crowman’s Dushar Melvi. He is a 3yo by Dushyantor and goes off at 9/1. However, the long odds are mostly based on a number of starter allowances he ran on turf, winning several of them so easily that his speed figures were pretty low. If you look solely at his four dirt races, he’s worth better odds than that, particularly considering that his last was a stakes victory at 12 furlongs with a 92 speed figure. Put Z. Kentucky in the saddle, and you have to figure that this one may be worth laying some money down.

In post five is rgrg’s Sir Lancelot BG. The silvery coloured 4yo by Cozzene is a pretty good horse at 12 furlongs, but ran poorly in his only start at today’s distance. He could have just had a bad race, one isn’t really enough to judge his ability on. Plus, he hasn’t tried an off track. Basically, there are more questions than answers on this horse at the moment, but E C Doyle is in the irons and that is definitely a plus. His odds are 10/1.

Rounding out the field is goodwin5’s Moments Gone By(GB). He is a 3yo by Grape Tree Road(GB). Yeah, I know….who? haha. He may be a cheap sire, but he’s certainly got the pedigree to handle a route of ground, being by Caerleon. He hasn’t been beyond 12 furlongs, but he’s a stakeswinner at 11 furlongs, and his off track record is 4-2-2-0. Besides not having tried the distance, jockey X. Bowden is an x factor, but if he can put it all together, he’s got a real shot. He goes off at 5/2.

The field may be small, but we have some nice horses here. These distance races are always fun to watch. Good luck to all, and may they all come home sound.

[2

post-1328","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-previews
["GET
