1.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/SPAN><\/SPAN>Breaking from the inside will be 3-year-old Lake<\/B><\/st1:PlaceType> Bemidji<\/st1:PlaceName><\/B>, a royally bred filly by Miswaki x Danzig x Damascus<\/st1:place><\/st1:City>, at 12\/1.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>This 3yo turned into a turf monster after air15<\/I> claimed her for $20,000 and switched surfaces.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>In fact, she\u2019s undefeated in 7 sturf starts, and comes in today off 4 straight stakes wins vs. older fillies and mares, with her last 5 races run with speed figures in excess of 100. \u00a0<\/SPAN>Great claim, air15<\/I>!\u00a0 <\/SPAN>One caution, all her turf sprint wins have been closing victories at 7 and 7 \u00bd furlongs \u2013 this could be short for her.<\/P>

2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/SPAN><\/SPAN>Another 3-year-old, millionaire Grass And She<\/B> from the heythere<\/I> stable, will load next door.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>By Mt.<\/st1:PlaceType> Livermore<\/st1:PlaceName><\/st1:place> out of Arctic Flag, by Rahy from a Hoist The Flag mare, she has won several graded stakes, with Grade I placements.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>However, she\u2019s already made 13 starts this year, and hasn\u2019t won in her last 6 race, and recent\u00a0speed figures haven\u2019t matched those from the spring.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>At 10\/1, she could need a rest to be at her best.<\/P>

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/P>

3.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/SPAN><\/SPAN>Cocoa (IRE)<\/B>, yet another 3yo, owned by nyrangers<\/I>, has made only 9 lifetime starts, and has never been out of the money.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>She\u2019s won half her 6 stakes starts, including her most recent start, a Grade II. \u00a0<\/SPAN>This filly looks to have a bright future.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Today could be a tough spot for her at this early stage of her career, which is reflected by her 15\/1 odds.\u00a0 <\/SPAN><\/P>

4.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/SPAN><\/SPAN>Seven-year-old Mother Bluff (IRE)<\/B>, by Pilsudski (IRE) x Royal Academy x Exclusive Native, is a good, solid stakes performer, including one graded stakes win.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Owner stormypik9<\/I> may have her in against a tougher group than usual.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>She is at odds of 12\/1.\u00a0 <\/SPAN><\/P>

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/P>

5.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/SPAN><\/SPAN>Australian-bred The Aus Boss (AUS)<\/B>, entered by speedzone1<\/I>, is well thought of at 6\/1.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>She has a strong, strong turf pedigree, being by Nothin Leica Dane (a son of Danehill) out of a Mill Reef mare, herself out of a Secretariat daughter.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>She won three Grade I races earlier this year on turf, and another at a mile on dirt.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Those 4 were at the end of a 7-race winning streak.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>She has hit the board in Grade I\u2019s since then, but has been winless in her last 5 starts.<\/P>

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/P>

6.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/SPAN><\/SPAN>From the sdmf<\/I> barn, Tequila Shooter<\/B> (and you\u2019ve got to love that name), at age 3 is taking on the older girls again.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>The daughter of Aldebaran x Dixieland Band x Unbridled ran an excellent speed figure in her last race, an ungraded stakes win.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>She\u2019s a Grade I winner against fillies her own age, and a two-time stakes winner on dirt.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>If this talented filly runs back to her last performance, she could provide some tough competition.\u00a0 10\/1.<\/P>

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/P>

7.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/SPAN><\/SPAN>Ghost Oftheyear<\/B>, at 11\/1, is the entry from ufsldowns<\/I>.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>You have to back up ten races to find a win in her past performances, then you hit two of her three stakes wins.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>On her best day, she could score; but she hasn\u2019t really had her best day this year.<\/P>

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/P>

8.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/SPAN><\/SPAN>Bacchus<\/I> has nominated K\u2019s Addiktion<\/B>, a well-bred daughter of Gulch x Northern Dancer x Raise A Native.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>She has 3 wins in her last 5 races, including a Grade I in her last start.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>She is at 11\/1, and while her speed figures aren\u2019t as impressive as some, she\u2019s improved with age, and her last race was a good one.<\/P>

9.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/SPAN><\/SPAN>Red Tejas<\/B>, who already has a race named for her, is a millionaire from texasace<\/I> stable.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>She\u2019s at 9\/1 in the morning line, coming in off an allowance win in her last start.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>She\u2019s a past Grade I stakes winner, capable of running very<\/U> fast speed figures.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>However, her recent form has been below par, and she may have passed her peak.<\/P>

10.\u00a0 <\/SPAN><\/SPAN>Yet another millionaire, this time from peeps5<\/I>\u2019s string, Smackdown (IRE)<\/B> a 3-year-old by Rock of Gibralter (IRE) x Peintre Celebre (IRE) x The Minstrel, has been off the board in her last 4 starts.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>She\u2019s a two-time Grade I stakes winner in the past, but both of those wins were at over a mile.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>In fact, all<\/U> her best performances have been over a mile.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>My question:\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Why is she here at 36\/1?<\/P>

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/P>

11.\u00a0 <\/SPAN><\/SPAN>Am I the only person who actually remembers Don Poggio?\u00a0 <\/SPAN>His great-granddaughter Fourteen Comb<\/B> is rintintin<\/I>\u2019s entry; she\u2019s by Danzig Connection x Sovereign Dancer x\u00a0 Don Poggio.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>She\u2019s a 7-year-old with plenty of back class, multiple Grade I wins, over $1.5 million in earnings, and some spectacular speed figures\u2026but not lately.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>She may very well be the best $2,000 claim in sim history, but it may be time for an honorable retirement to the broodmare barn.<\/P>

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/P>

12.\u00a0 <\/SPAN><\/SPAN>Waki Alexis<\/B> from the barn of manowar<\/I> is an \u201conly child\u201d sired by Miswaki\u00a0 <\/SPAN>from SW Alex Cheyenne, by Forty Niner x Star de Naskra.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>This nice (though very closely inbred to Mr. Prospector) filly is a stakes winner, with a second in a Grade I to her credit, but this field could be tough for her, particularly as she seems to be something of a 7 furlong specialist.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>She\u2019s at 9\/1.<\/P>

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/P>

13.\u00a0 <\/SPAN><\/SPAN>Lukewarm favorite Elsinore<\/B><\/st1:place> <\/B>(Danehill x Pentelicus x Nureyev) is another \u201conly child\u201d out of 11-time stakes winner Mine Trader.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>She\u2019s coming into this race off 8 straight stakes wins, including 2 Grade I, 1 Grade II, and 5 Grade III\u2019s, and 5 straight 100+ speed figures.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Owner\/trainer wombat<\/I> may be disappointed at her unfavorable post position, but she\u2019s the class of the field based on recent form.<\/P>

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/P>

14.\u00a0 <\/SPAN><\/SPAN>Finally, derbyking<\/I>\u2019s Dash Around<\/B>, who sports an old-fashioned (but excellent) pedigree, by Danzig Connection x Nashua<\/st1:City> x Round Table, comes into this race off a stakes win at this distance and surface at South Dakota<\/st1:place><\/st1:State>.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>She\u2019s been very consistent lately, though against much softer competition.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>At 10\/1, you can\u2019t count her out, but throw in the #14 post position, and she doesn\u2019t seem a likely winner.<\/P>

\u00a0<\/o:p><\/P>

As always, I don\u2019t \u201cdo\u201d picks; that would be a sure way for me to make enemies, should anyone be silly enough to think I knew what I’m talking about.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>This race looks like it will be a\u00a0cavalry charge – and a fast one\u00a0–\u00a0and it will be fun to watch these tough ladies going for the glory.<\/P>
