Salfly’s Spur(AUS) left no doubts, as she went wire to wire to capture this week’s Water Heather(IRE) Memorial by four lengths. This was her fourth win in a row, all in stakes, and her fifth stakes victory in fifteen career starts. The win boosts her career earnings to just over $225000, and it also solidifies her Long Turf Divisional Ranking, moving her up to number fifteen. She still has a long career in front of her, and she looks to be the best progeny from her dam, Repulsively Pop, who, interestingly enough, was a dirt sprinter.

Salfly’s Spur(AUS) flew out of the gate in this one, pretty much as expected. With no one to really challenge her early, she put the rest of the field quickly behind her, opening up a four length cushion by first call, which she extended to nearly eight at the half. She didn’t give up a length until well into the stretch, when the closers finally managed to begin to pick up some ground. Mals Approval was closing hard down the last half of the stretch, coming from eight lengths out at the half, mananging to close to four at the wire. Had the race been another furlong or two, there may have been quite a battle at the wire. Gold And Green II also managed to make up some ground down the stretch, closing from just over twelve lengths out at the half to grab third place, eight and a half lengths out at the wire.
