Today I will focus on the Canterbury Tales which is run at the New South Wales track. The weather should be fine in the mid 20’s and a bit overcast, but as you all know hail, rain, or shine there will be a big crowd to watch a good days of racing. This years race has attracted a field of 12, and there’s some really nice three year olds here who will be around for a while. I’d also like to say good luck to Black Caviar who will be going for win number 24 at the Valley Friday night.

Canterbury Tales
Grade III / Group 3 – Purse : $150,000
Restricted to 3 Year Olds
6 Furlongs | ~1200 Meters | Three Quarters of a Mile

PP#1 DANCING ALL NIGHT ENG 3M estrapade F Gartland $7
Starts: 10:3-3-2
Money Earnt: $127,170
Distance Starts: 4:3-0-0
Class Starts: 1:0-0-0
Track Starts: 1:0-1-0
Best Speed and Distance: 1100m sp:94
Last 5 Starts: 23132

DANSILI (GB) colt who is yet to finish worse than fourth. Only once lost a race and this distance from his four starts at 1200m which just happened to be at this class. Has been racing well at stakes company and the trainer obviously thinks he’s better ready now to take on this class. He has raced once at this track last year where he finished second at 1100m in a stakes race. F Gartland has taken up the offer to ride him again and I think that’s important as he knows how to ride this colt. Look for him to be near the front and try and strike in the straight. He is considered to be one of the main chances here.

PP#2 SHAMARDANCER IRE 3M fitzy C LeBlanc $9
Starts: 3:1-1-1
Money Earnt: $53,250
Distance Starts: 1:0-1-0
Class Starts: First Start
Track Starts: First Start
Best Speed and Distance: 1200m sp:100
Last 5 Starts: 132

SHAMARDAL colt who is yet to miss a placing. He is lightly raced and with him it’s a bit of the unknown. His last race he probably shocked a few when he nearly won, but more impotrantly his speed figure was 100 which ain’t bad for his first start as a three year old. Has been racing in Queensland his last two starts so doesn’t have to travel very far to get to the New South Wales track. Will be interesting to see how he handles the step up in class and he is one you’re going to have to take at your own risk.

PP#3 STREET ZEN KY 3M animalk126 M Cameron $7
Starts: 8:4-1-1
Money Earnt: $130,830
Distance Starts: 3:2-1-0
Class Starts: First Start
Track Starts: First Start
Best Speed and Distance: 1100m sp:96
Last 5 Starts: 1s411

STREET CRY (IRE) colt who has been racing in America, but has flown to the other side of the world to contest this race. He is yet to finish worse than second from his three starts at the distance, and is also yet to lose a race on the turf. Started his three year old career with two wins from three starts with his last race being his best start yet in a 1100m stakes race at Arkansas. Has come a long way and I expect a good run from him, if he has travelled well. Bookies have put him at 7/1 odds and he is one of the horses in the mix.

PP#4 THUNACER NY 3M wyndaway1 P Everett $38
Starts: 15:4-3-3
Money Earnt: $105,325
Distance Starts: 6:3-1-0
Class Starts: First Start
Track Starts: First Start
Best Speed and Distance: 1500m sp:87
Last 5 Starts: 10303

MAKE RESERVATIONS colt who is his best foal to date. He is heavily raced and has raced just about everywhere, with him running on both turf and dirt. He goes well at the distance but no track or class experience. He is at big odds here today and I think he’s got any chance here, but I wish him all the best.

PP#5 SCATTER THE SEED KY 3M stickup P Kays $6
Starts: 7:5-0-0
Money Earnt: $442,100
Distance Starts: 3:3-0-0
Class Starts: First Start
Track Starts: First Start
Best Speed and Distance: 1600m sp:97
Last 5 Starts: 56s11

SCAT DADDY colt who is ranked number 9 in this division. He is the early second favourite here but could have easily been the favourite by looking at his stats. He is yet to lose at 1200m and has won a GRP1 race as a twon year old. This colt started his racing career with a nat trick of wins and then had a couple of unlucky runs, but after a spell he started his three year old career unbeaten from two starts so far. Went over to America for his last three starts but has arived in Australia for the firsr time. Looks well placed here and I think he’s a big danger for the rest of the field.

PP#6 UNCLE NUTBAR KY 3M hurryup B Philp $9
Starts: 8:4-0-2
Money Earnt: $375,060
Distance Starts: 5:1-0-2
Class Starts: 1:0-0-1
Track Starts: First Start
Best Speed and Distance: 1200m sp:98
Last 5 Starts: 31511

UNCLE MO colt who I think is good value here for those who like to take a shot and bigger odds. Hasn’t done much wrong so far from his eight starts and has won a couple of GRP2 races so the class should be no worries. He likes to lead in his races which is good in small fields but in a big field it could spell trouble as he may not have enough to hold off the late chargers. Has placed from his only start at the class and goes well at 1200m, but I think he might just fade at the end.

PP#7 DASHING BUDA AUS 3M wee K Williams $2.5
Starts: 9:4-1-3
Money Earnt: $566,120
Distance Starts: 7:3-1-3
Class Starts: First Start
Track Starts: First Start
Best Speed and Distance: 1400m sp:107
Last 5 Starts: s1131

ENCOSTA DE LAGO (AUS) colt who is the early favourite for this years race. I think we all know why he’s favourite, he’s well bred and ranked number 2 in this division. He is yet to miss a placing at 1200m and has won GRP1 AND GRP2 races so this class won’t be a factor for him here. I expect K Williams to put him just off the pace and then let him explode in the stretch. Has not raced at this track yet but has a good jockey on his back. He’s a super horse and he’s definately the one to beat.

PP#8 SUPERIOR LOOK JPN 3M lostkey12 $31
Starts: 9:3-1-3
Money Earnt: $99,667
Distance Starts: 3:1-1-1
Class Starts: First Start
Track Starts: First Start
Best Speed and Distance: 1200m sp:82
Last 5 Starts: 33141

JOHANNESBURG colt who doesn’t look like a bad horse by form. Has raced in small fields so all those third placings are really second last. Races well at allowance company with speeds in the eighties and that just won’t get it done here. I’m not really sure about his last race cause he didn’t have much of a chalenge with the other 3 slugs being owned by the CPU. I thnik the owners will be happy with him if he can beat a few home.

PP#9 TICKLISH AUS 3M weedman J Cox $10
Starts: 8:3-3-0
Money Earnt: $134,950
Distance Starts: 5:1-2-0
Class Starts: First Start
Track Starts: First Start
Best Speed and Distance: 1200m sp:97
Last 5 Starts: 12651

STAR WITNESS (AUS) colt who is at big odds here today considering his not so bad form. He goes well at the distance and this will be his third start as a three year old, and is only going to get better with each run. He has got J Cox on his back and that will help but I still think this will be a bit too hard for him.

PP#10 BOTHNOTICE NY 3M deeprock98 B Baroo $16
Starts: 15:3-4-3
Money Earnt: $331,146
Distance Starts: 9:2-2-3
Class Starts: 3:1-1-1
Track Starts: First Start
Best Speed and Distance: 1200m sp:91
Last 5 Starts: 03021

GIROLAMO colt who is well raced and that might be a down here. He is yet to miss a place at the class and this looks like the best he could do. Runs good at the distance and this will be his first starts at this track. Has started his three year old career with a win and a second but both those races were in small fields. I would have to think he would have to improve loads to be even considered a place chance.

PP#11 MADAME BARB IRE 3M dpcd4 R Wilhite $12
Starts: 9:5-1-2
Money Earnt: $225,665
Distance Starts: 5:3-1-1
Class Starts: 1:1-0-0
Track Starts: First Start
Best Speed and Distance: 1200m sp:91
Last 5 Starts: 12113

LOPE DE VEGA (IRE) colt who is so far the best for the 2012 season. He has won at this class and distance a few starts ago, but this will be a completely different race. He is yet to miss a place at 1200m but this is his first start at the track. He is in form but others look to strong for him to get this.

PP#12 CATTERICK BRIDGE IRE 3M rubiano12 L Fontain $7
Starts: 6:2-2-2
Money Earnt: $99,260
Distance Starts: 1:0-1-0
Class Starts: First Start
Track Starts: 4:2-0-2
Best Speed and Distance: 1300m sp:98
Last 5 Starts: 31122

DALAKHANI (IRE) colt who is stepping up in class here, but he is yet to miss a place from his six starts. Started his three year old career with two second placings in stakes races. The owners have decided to give jockey L Fontain the chance to ride their horse which has had four of his six starts at this track. Hasn’t won at this distance and is in some good form. Looks like a horse on the rise and maybe a slight place chance here due to his track experience here.

My Tips:
PP#7 DASHING BUDA AUS
PP#5 SCATTER THE SEED KY
PP#12 CATTERICK BRIDGE IRE

Tips By Money Earnt:
PP#7 DASHING BUDA AUS
PP#5 SCATTER THE SEED KY
PP#6 UNCLE NUTBAR KY

Tips By Most ITM%:
PP#12 CATTERICK BRIDGE IRE
PP#2 SHAMARDANCER IRE
PP#7 DASHING BUDA AUS

Tips By Most Wins:
PP#11 MADAME BARB IRE
PP#5 SCATTER THE SEED KY
PP#7 DASHING BUDA AUS

Tips By Best Speed:
PP#7 DASHING BUDA AUS
PP#2 SHAMARDANCER IRE
PP#12 CATTERICK BRIDGE IRE

Tips By Odds:
PP#7 DASHING BUDA AUS
PP#5 SCATTER THE SEED KY
PP#3 STREET ZEN KY

Overall Ratings:
PP#7 DASHING BUDA AUS 14 points
PP#5 SCATTER THE SEED KY 8 points
PP#12 CATTERICK BRIDGE IRE 5 points
PP#2 SHAMARDANCER IRE 4 points
PP#6 UNCLE NUTBAR KY 1 point
PP#11 MADAME BARB IRE 1 point
PP#3 STREET ZEN KY 1 point

So there we have it, good luck to all who are involved in this race.
