I have a horse I wanted to point toward the Middle Jewel Stakes (after seeing it might come upon a sloppy track). I then noticed I have a 3 yr. old colt that could run in a G3 sprint the same day. This is where I get into trouble thinking about sim while drinking my morning coffee. \u201cHow cool would it be to get in and run in both races?\u201d \u2026 but that has been done before.\u00a0 Time to pump it up! And take it to the next level by entering a horse in every graded event on the Middle Jewel card. I lack the talent needed to make a run like this on Dubai World Cup day, or Breeders Cup, but heck I live close to Pimlico and it would be fun to try and dominate one weekend. If you decide to continue your read, you will find out I really don\u2019t have the talent to do this either<span style='font-family:Wingdings;'>J<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>Since this wonderful game is so much better because of the community aspect I thought I would share my thoughts in a three-part expose. Part #1 the initial plan, part #2 will be an update and thoughts heading into my big weekend, and lastly a recap of what I learned and random thoughts. <\/p>\n<p>Part #1; \u201cLaunching operation Cadet\u2019s Navel Assault on Rainy Baltimore (CNARB). The community aspect of the game is the only reason I ame ven trying such a feat. If it wasn\u2019t for linking my 3 yr. old <a href=\"http:\/\/derbyfever.com\/horseracing\/onehorse_inline.asp?horse=11300004683\">Trappe Cadet<\/a> in the chat and getting the opinions of others I would have never even had this opportunity. I was convinced that after consecutive 6<sup>th<\/sup>placed finishes in which he faded late, that he was a sprinter and asking him to route was just too much. A masterful Australian trainer suggested more ground, not less, to compliment his running style. Luckily this foal&#8217;s \u00bd brother <a href=\"http:\/\/derbyfever.com\/horseracing\/onehorse_inline.asp?horse=11200020309\">Drunk Cadet<\/a> had shown ability over 10f and my top Derby prospect at the time just got injured. That was enough for me to scratch from a 7f listed and go into a generally tough 9f resident race. Trappe Cadet at one point last year was the fastest 2 yr. old around two turns based on his first stakes win on an off-track, so with these symptoms I realized I caught my first Derby fever since 2001. While mapping out a plan for Trappe I got very excited when I found that the UAE Derby AND Middle Jewel are both on off tracks. Now onto the mission\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Find a horse to point for each race and map out a plan.<\/p>\n<p><b><u>\u00a0The Gallery Handicap- Grade 3- Purse100,000 3yr and Older Fillies and Mares 8.5f turf<\/u><\/b><\/p>\n<p>The Gallery Handicap has the luck of the gods where on my side. I already have a filly that is qualified to run at a Grade 3 level. \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/derbyfever.com\/horseracing\/onehorse_inline.asp?horse=11200018502\">CadetsCauseway<\/a> has already run a 109 at this distance. After a winter rest her first start of 2013 was very poor on an off-track, but Zeus, god of rain, has favored Cadet on this adventure giving me a firm turf course on Friday before a rain-soaked Middle Jewel. At time of writing, she already is in an 8.5f turf event in nearby New Jersey, and as long as she stays healthy and improves, forward we go with The Gallery Handicap.\u00a0 Her best race was a move from 8f to 8.5 so I look to duplicate that and landed on an 8f listed stakes about 5 weeks between races. West Virginia has the Mango Code Turf Mare Mile that works perfectly, but first she needs to come out of the race this weekend clean. <\/p>\n<p><b><u>The Billy Donald-Grade 3- Purse $100,000 3yr and older 9f dirt<\/u><\/b><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0Let the masterful training attempt being. Severely lacking in any quality older dirt horses, and needing to use every bit of talent in my stables I have selected <a href=\"http:\/\/derbyfever.com\/horseracing\/onehorse_inline.asp?horse=10800007604\">Deputy Cadet<\/a>. My only grade 1 winner (ever) will be needed for any chance atmaking it to the starting gate. My rational into why I think this is crazy enough to work you ask: This old guy has shown plenty of class on the grass, but won his 2012 debut on dirt in a professional fashion.\u00a0 His other two dirt efforts was his debut start at only 4.5f and a quality 3<sup>rd<\/sup> in a maiden event after a 14month layoff. Mom was listed winner on both surfaces and sire Belong to Me actually does better on dirt than turf. He already is entered in a Delaware alw race on dirt to begin his 2013 campaign and I\u2019ll make some training adjustments after that race to get him ready for 9f.<\/p>\n<p><b><u>Black MiddleFlower- Grade 2 Purse $250,000 3 yr. old filly 9f dirt<\/u><\/b><\/p>\n<p>This is obviously a huge ask to get a horse in the Middle Jewel and Middle Flower and I am the least confident I can get a horse in the gate for this race. Because of that I\u2019m going to take a very aggressive approach on two of my young fillies. <a href=\"http:\/\/derbyfever.com\/horseracing\/onehorse_inline.asp?horse=11300100904\">Cadet You Bet<\/a> running this weekend overseas on dirt. If she can get a win or at least a big improvement in speed numbers I will look into getting her a path to MD the middle of May. More realistic, but still astronomical odds are with <a href=\"http:\/\/derbyfever.com\/horseracing\/onehorse_inline.asp?horse=11300110279\">Penchant Cadet<\/a>. Two for two filly out of a grade 1 winning mare, is currently entered to run an alw race in the end of March. Depending on how Cadet You Bet runs, I might have to cut back her rest and find a listed event. Need a miracle for this race.<\/p>\n<p><b><u>MD Distaff- Grade 2 Purse $200,000 3yr and older fillies 8.5f dirt<\/u><\/b><\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m already invested in my idea and almost half way home with the difficult task of finding horses that might actually be competitive in 8 different graded races as the same track in two days. I\u2019m having some major second thoughts, but will ask for a major miracle again and hope that <ahref=\"http:\/\/derbyfever.com\/horseracing\/onehorse_inline.asp?horse=11200015294\">StormCadet<\/a> can get me into the starting gate. She has been on the farm since October and can\u2019t come off until after this weekend.\u00a0 She did last race in Maryland and was a solid third, I\u2019mhoping being sired by Dynaformer lends her to be a late developer and the time at the farm did her some good. The training effort will be focused around getting her fit enough for a Grade 2, trying to fit in three preps before themiddle of May.\u00a0 First up will be a purchased alw race to get her mind on running again.<\/p>\n<p><b><u>Confederate Stakes- Grade 2 Purse $250,000 3yrs and older 9f Turf<\/u><\/b><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/derbyfever.com\/horseracing\/onehorse_inline.asp?horse=11200020479\">Christmas Cadet<\/a> is coming off a 5<sup>th<\/sup> place finish, losing by just 2\u00bd lengths in the same conditions, so I feel comfortable here. Since I don\u2019t have to worry about him making the race, I get the pleasure of getting him primed to run a big effort. This is what is going to make the Assault on Baltimore fun. Since his last effort found him a little dull on the front end, I\u2019m going to ship him back to California (home base) and run in the G2 Arcade Handicap. The goal of the G2 mile is sharpen up his speed so he is more effective on the front end, when he stretches back out to 9f for the Confederate.\u00a0 I will be setting him at 100 (lead) and .80 (effort) to make sure he leaves a little in the tank for his main goal. <\/p>\n<p><b><u>Jacob Hirsch-Grade 3 Purse $100,000 3 yr. old 6f dirt<\/u><\/b><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/derbyfever.com\/horseracing\/onehorse_inline.asp?horse=11300003853\">Long Island Cadet<\/a> a major reason I started on this silly adventure. After realizing I have a shot with Trappe Cadet, I was searching for a graded sprint for Long Island Cadet. I stumbled across a rain-soaked sprint in Maryland and it looked like a great fit. This speedster I pegged for a sprinter, but when you win a listed and place in a graded with a 3 yr. old you have to try routing. I played around with jockey settings too much and tried to get him to come off the pace. A ton of speed was signed up in the Legoland and I don\u2019t\/didn\u2019t think he will get a mile. I set him at .10, I was encouraged he made a late move and want toplay around with jock instructions a bit more. He is entered in another mile race, but changed his instructions to .40. I don\u2019t expect much out of him inthe mile, but will be interesting to see if I can take a speed ball and get himto relax at longer distances. Win, lose, or total epic failure I\u2019ll be focusing on the Jacob Hirsch after his March 10<sup>th<\/sup> listed attempt.\u00a0 Both off track races have been good forhim and these two 8f races should give him some stamina when shortening back upto sprint distance. I consider him my most likely winner. (Man I\u2019m delusional,but you already know that.)<\/p>\n<p><b><u>MD Breeders Bowl-Grade 3 Purse $200,000 3yr+ 6f dirt<\/u><\/b><\/p>\n<p>Older dirt horses is not a group of horses I excel in, so going to pin all my hopes on the rain-soaked main track. Hopefully the rain will keep away a lot of runners and allow my <a href=\"http:\/\/derbyfever.com\/horseracing\/onehorse_inline.asp?horse=11200010581\">Stone Cadet<\/a> to get into the field and run big. Truthfully this is the only sprinter type I own. He was set at 80% effort last time out as prep for an ESR resident sprint in a week. Assuming he runs well as planned I\u2019ll look for an off track to try him on. Plan B consists of switching a turf horse to a muddy dirt track. <a href=\"http:\/\/derbyfever.com\/horseracing\/onehorse_inline.asp?horse=11200020456\">Dubawi Cadet<\/a> (?) might be fun to test a poly= off-main track type of training angle. This is yet ANOTHER race that is going to test my training ability.<\/p>\n<p><b><u>Middle Jewel Stakes- Grade 1 Purse $1,000,000 3 yr. old 9.5f dirt<\/u><\/b><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/derbyfever.com\/horseracing\/onehorse_inline.asp?horse=11300004683\">Trappe Cadet<\/a> I already spoke about in the intro. Loves a sloppy track and that is the training plan. 8f Listed slop fest in West Virginia, then onto UAE Derby at 9f with 75% off track, then rest for his shot at Classic Glory. <\/p>\n<p>Thanks for reading.
