The race will be open to three-year-olds and up and has attracted a total of seven contenders for this years race. It has been a sunny week and the race, set to go off at 2:30 PM EST, will have a track listed as firm at post time. Lets take a look at the seven contenders.
1. Rosenrot (GER) – (Monsun (GER) x Danehill x Sharpen Up (GB)) – piccolo87 – V. Jennings
The only foreign-bred horse to be in this Saturday’s race, he will be a top contender with 70% of his starts ending with an in the money finish. The German-bred five year old is already a stakes winner and even graded placed with a little less in the bank than a half million. The most recent start for the homebred horse was in an eight and a half furlong allowance race in which the horse won by a head at the wire after breaking out of the gate in third and quickly picking off other horses. The horse set a speed figure of one hundred eight. His last stakes start was in May of this year when he ran fourth in the mile long A Rub Of Irish Turf Mile. The horse will likely want to sit off the pace out of the gate, likely back in third or fourth at the break.
2. Ryder’s Number – (Dynaformer x Hennessy x Forty Niner) – whirlaway – S. Hardinger
Into the second slot, this five-year-old Kentucky-bred will be looking for yet another stakes win. Out of the winning claimer Art Exhibit, the horse has surpassed the physical ability of his dam. His most recent start came in a nine and a half furlong allowance race earlier this month in which he took off out of the gate in third position. As the field came toward the stretch the horse managed to gain the lead, but as they came to the wire was passed up by a late closer to finish second with a speed figure of ninety-nine. The horses last win was in May of last year during the Bristol Rovers Turf Route at eight and a half furlongs, which was run in a very similar style to his most recent start. The horse will likely vary from breaking between just off the pace in third or so, to farther back in a mid-pack running position.
3. Venerated – (Leroidesanamaux (BRZ) x Fasliyev x Last Tycoon (IRE)) – houseriot – D. Hogin
Next up, the Brazilian-sired but Kentucky-bred five-year-old will be making his thirtieth career start and will also be looking for his first stakes victory. The most recent start for the brown horse originally bred by jbrody was a mile long allowance race in Brazil in which the horse broke on the lead but would fade in the stretch to come home third at the wire and set a speed figure of one hundred three. His last win came at ten furlongs, the distance of Saturday’s race, in an allowance race in Japan. This weekend will mark the horses first attempt at a listed stakes race and his first start in the United States. The horse will be the likely pacesetter of Saturday’s race, though he can rate back slightly if necessary.
4. Rainzapper Ted – (Ghostzapper x Rainbow Quest x Kris S.) – puddinpuss – P. Goodson
Highly experienced with a total of forty-one lifetime starts, the chestnut five-year-old is out of the stakes placed broodmare Rainbows Queue. As a stakes winner, the horse, bred by runtime has already exceeded the running record of his dam and is currently ranked #716 in turf routers, one of the higher ranked horses in this weekends field. The most recent start for the horse came in a nine furlong allowance race in Brazil. Breaking in second, the horse gained the lead for a brief time leading into the stretch, but was overtaken later on to finish second, setting a speed figure of ninety-eight. The horse hasn’t won a race for over a year though when he emerged victorious in last years running of the Peter The Great Turf Special, when he took the race in wire to wire fashion by two and a half lengths. The horse should be forwardly placed on Saturday out of the gate, and could even take the lead, though he will likely sit off the pace a little and let Venerated have the early lead.
5. Roll Toilet Paper – (Jolted And Jostled x Nijinsky II (CAN) x Ela-Mana-Mou (IRE)) – lglong2 – A. Jolly
Working towards the end of the field, this four-year-old colt, ranked as the the #317 best turf router is coming off four consecutive wins. Foaled in Alabama the colt made his most recent start last month in Illinois during a ten furlong allowance race where he broke out of the gate in second but took command of the race in the final furlongs to win the race by a quarter of a length, setting a speed figure of one hundred eight, a lifetime best for the colt. Prior to this he’d won another race, a ten furlong allowance race in Nevada under similar fashion. This will be the colts first attempt at stakes level competition. The colt will likely be one of the first horses out of the gate, likely settling back into second with Rainzapper Ted or attempting to challenge Venerated for the lead.
6. Oopsy Daisy – (A.P. Indy x Affirmed x Nureyev) opus – F. Oxon
The oldest and most accomplished horse in the field this weekend, out of the Grade III winning broodmare Rhino Daisy, the six-year-old horse is a previous Grade I winner and a holder of over one million in career earnings. Recently however, the horse has been running at allowance level, coming off of three consecutive wins before his start here in the Peter The Great Turf Special. His most recent start was an allowance race at nine and a half furlongs which the horse won by two and a quarter lengths, setting a speed figure of one hundred three. His most recent listed stakes was at ten furlongs in Germany during the Black Hank Turf Route over a good turf track late last year. The most prestigious victory under the belt of this horse is the 2010 winning of the Eclipsed Stakes (G1), though he has placed in a few other graded races. This weekend, the horse will likely be one of the last ones out of the gate, trying to stay away from the hustle and bustle racing to the front, though he will certainly be looking to stay close enough to remain in good striking distance.
7. Will’s Money Maker – (Hard Spun x Seeking The Gold x Kris S.) – kobras4 – T. Ace
The last horse to go into the gate Saturday afternoon, the chestnut four-year-old, will be making his twenty-eighth lifetime start. Already a listed stakes winner, he will be looking for another win to notch under his belt. The most recent start for the colt was last month in Canada during the nine and a half furlong Orthoclase Turf Route. Breaking fifth out of the gate, the colt made his move in the stretch but came up short when he finished third, setting a speed figure of one hundred eight. His most recent win came at ten furlongs, the distance of this weekends race, in the Giantsbane Turf Memorial in northern California. This colt will likely be the closer of the field, running at the back of the pack until he will be urged to make his move in the stretch.

Can Rainzapper Ted Repeat His Feat?
