Last week was Derby week, and the Spotlight focused on an allowance race in Kentucky.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>\u00a0<\/SPAN>Giant Tears, who was my second choice, stalked the pace setter and was able to pounce in the late stages of the race and brought home the win and paid $9.60.<\/o:p><\/FONT><\/P>

\u00a0<\/FONT><\/o:p><\/P>

Pacesetter Closer Tothe Heart could not hold on, but was second best and paid a very nice $57.30 in the exacta.<\/o:p><\/FONT><\/P>

\u00a0<\/FONT><\/o:p><\/P>

The favorite, and incidentally my top choice, Kernstown was an unimposing third and part of a $167.10 trifecta.\u00a0\u00a0 <\/SPAN>My third selection was My Charming Maria, a resident horse in Kentucky who failed to show any flair and finished sixth.<\/o:p><\/FONT><\/P>

It doesn\u2019t happen often, but once in a while the Spotlight finds a very small field to focus upon.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>This week it\u2019s the first race on the card in Texas.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>This is a race for local bred horses and is open to all horses age 3 and up.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>It is a claiming race with a tag of $15k and will go a mile on a sloppy track. \u00a0\u00a0<\/SPAN>The race is restricted to non-winners of 2 races.<\/o:p><\/FONT><\/P>

\u00a0<\/FONT><\/o:p><\/P>

\u00a0<\/FONT><\/o:p><\/P>

1. \u00a0\u00a0<\/SPAN>Ranger Walker\u00a0\u00a0 <\/SPAN>9-1<\/o:p><\/FONT><\/P>

Tried turf in last start back in February with disappointing results.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Speeds on dirt have been in 50-low 60 range.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Broke maiden with career-best speed of 79 last summer at 7.5 furlongs.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Has one start on sloppy track, which he hated very much.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Speed numbers and poor slop performance don\u2019t look to make a winner in this race.<\/o:p><\/FONT><\/P>

\u00a0<\/FONT><\/o:p><\/P>

2.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Linda\u2019s Pages\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/SPAN>9-1<\/o:p><\/FONT><\/P>

Broke maiden over this track in early March at 4.5f, however, followed up with poor finish at 8.5f although was grossly over-matched and showed improvement with speed number increasing from 63 to 70.\u00a0\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Not the best in field, but if top one falters, this one will have opportunity.<\/o:p><\/FONT><\/P>

\u00a0<\/FONT><\/o:p><\/P>

3.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Alu\u00a0\u00a0 <\/SPAN>1-9<\/o:p><\/FONT><\/P>

Favorite looks to have golden opportunity in this field.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Speeds dominate opposition in this field, ranging from upper 70\u2019s to low 80\u2019s.\u00a0\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Takes drop in claim level and is well placed to pick up the win here.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>It\u2019s all his for the taking.<\/o:p><\/FONT><\/P>

4.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Uncle Rumble\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/SPAN>12-1<\/o:p><\/FONT><\/P>

Ten year old horse who honestly has little to offer.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>On the board twice in 35 career starts and those two times happened back in 2006.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Speeds have ranged from 50 to 65 throughout 6 races this season.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Has been in very large fields throughout entire racing career.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>First time he\u2019s got into a mega-short field.\u00a0\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Maybe he\u2019ll find the small field less intimidating then the larger one\u2019s he\u2019s been racing in.<\/o:p><\/FONT><\/P>

\u00a0<\/FONT><\/o:p><\/P>

\u00a0<\/FONT><\/o:p><\/P>

Alu is obvious choice here.\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Linda\u2019s Pages looks to be second best in field to me with Ranger Walker getting the show spot.\u00a0\u00a0 <\/SPAN>Don\u2019t expect to collect much at the window, but collecting is better than tearing up the ticket.<\/o:p><\/FONT><\/P><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
