Hi all and welcome to lovely Victoria for the 13th running of the Sydney Mile. The forecast is for a fine sunny day so as always a big crowd is expected to see the 3 stakes races, but more importantly the 3 big group1 races. I will cover the first of the big 3 races, which has attracted a good field of nine horses. No matter what we are in for a great day of racing so if you head to the track or watch it on tv good luck to you as there is no clear winner.<\/p>\n
Race History:
This race was first run in 2000 when the prize money was $1.5 million and it was run in New South Wales. Not sure why this race was changed to Victoria in 2009 when another 500,000 was added to the prize money. As you can see from past winners there have been different lead up races in order to win this race. The last 2 winners did come out of the G3-Intercontinental Trophy Race Intercontinental Trophy which doesn’t help much here as that race winner isn’t running in this race. The very first winner of this race came off a 7 day rest, but most have had a 28 days rest. History shows that barrier 3 has won the most races followed by 1 and 9 but any barrier can win.<\/p>\n

This one is one of the 2 early favourites here today. Loves the distance and is very good at the class, but has been a bit out of form his last 3 starts. The trainer had this to say about him “he hasn’t done a whole lot this year and i am hoping he got a bit of rest and with one run off that rest under his belt that he will fire here. he just didnt seem on lto. He was sharp but didn’t run like he normally does so i think he will be happy in this race with less rest.” Look for him to sit off the pace and finish the race strongly.<\/p>\n
